Sonny & Shear

We’ve discussed in the past how trying to return to work has been less than successful.   Between Anna Grace’s therapy schedule and all of the follow up activities that are needed throughout our day, it has become obvious that I won’t be coming out of retirement in the coming months.

We’ve known for at least 9 months (that’s when the Fog of Denial started to fade) that we would be paying for therapy for years to come starting when Anna Grace turns three.  We also knew that this change would go smoother (financially) if I were to return to work.   So, we looked at things from every angle and tried to think of solutions, think outside the box, etc.  We came up with a plan.  What we realized was that being a nurse practitioner was not compatible with taking Anna Grace to all of her therapies and still having time available to do all her additional therapy activities (1-2 hours a day) at home.  Therefore, if I was going to return to work, a career change was in order.

So, in the past months when I’ve been blog-absent it wasn’t always because I was being sucked into some IEP/IDEA 2004 black hole.  Sometimes I was absent because I was being secretive, and working on other things.   Instead of blogging I was calling vendors, instead of taking photos I was stocking inventory.  In other words, I traded one career that I loved for another career I’m thrilled about.   I’m not saying I’m leaving health care for good, but life necessitates that I leave it for now.

As of this stage I am now Kris: Knitting Wannabe, inadvertently retired ARNP and online yarn shop owner.  So…. without further adieu….

Introducing Sonny & Shear: The I’ve Got Ewe, Babe Yarn Shop.   I’ve put a button on the sidebar for the shop to make it easy to locate.  In celebration of our grand opening, we’re offering 15% off of all orders until February 28, 2007.  To get the discount use the following coupon code:  A2INK6FN.

  1. I knew something was up because you emailed me with your Sonny and Shear email addy a few times. Congrats!! The site looks great, too bad I can’t buy any yarn…but I figure in 2008 when I can, you’ll have a killer inventory and more sock yarn than a girl could want! Good luck hunny!!

  2. I love AG’s title. And you are smart to prevent her from touching the computer. Although there may come a time when you want to fire her from her current position. I am working on a project for a swap and I see some yarn in the shop already that I may have to get. I can’t wait to see what other yarns you decide to add.

  3. I was thinking of you this morning while driving my daughter to school. On our way down the hill, the view of the Columbia River and the sun rising behind Mt. Hood was breathtaking. The first thing I thought was “Kris would love this.” The second thing was “how funny is it that the first thing I thought was about a person I’ve never actually met!”

I hope you and AG are feeling better. Congratulations and good luck with the new shop. I’ll place an order as soon as I figure out what I “need.”

  4. This is more exciting than the time I got my foot stuck in the toilet! What a great idea, becoming a dealer and feeding the addictions of your friends!

    All the best to you!

  5. Oh my goodness!! Congratulations. I know a yarn mogul. I am so excited for you. As soon as I have time I’ll put a link on my blog. Your site is great and your name is inspired. I just know you’re going to do great. I’m saving up for some Silky Wool and as soon as I get enough my order will definitely be in!
