Saturday

Catchy title, eh?

Today we had my grandmother’s service. We just had a simple graveside service.  I got up early this morning and drove to Tallahassee (about 3.5 hours away).  The service was nice, simple.  No family uprisings and that one family member (you know….THAT family member…. every family has at least one) well….he didn’t show up.   So…. all is well.

I had lunch with my mother, aunt and uncle and then I headed home.

When I got here I was pretty brain dead after all of the events of the week and the day.  We had a little dinner and then I sat down and had a few quiet moments.  And I finished my socks.  It just seemed like the right thing to do.

Waffle Rib Socks

Cascade Sassy Stripes

US 1 DPN’s

While working on this project I think I figured out what my fascination is with waffle rib.  I like waffle rib because if you have an economy yarn, like Sassy Stripes, it gives your finished work a bit more poof and squish.  So, it is a nice pattern for creating a softer knitted fabric when using an economy yarn.  After all, I realize folks can’t knit with Smooshy or Squooshy every time.

I really like Sassy Stripes.  It is a nice and soft yarn, comes in some pretty colors and is just doens’t cost a lot.  By using something like the waffle rib, I get a fluffier sock with a yarn that isn’t quite as thick as some yarns but…. I get a nice thick, squishy, yummy result.  Happy, happy, joy, joy.

So….how do you do waffle rib?  Well, there are probably several versions of waffle rib but here’s mine:

Row 1: Knit

Row 2: Knit

Row 3: K2, P2

Row 4: K2, P2

Rinse and repeat.

Insert this into your usual sock recipe and have fun.

Toodles y’all!
