Saturday Status Report

We’re counting the days until the move, evaluating whether we’ll need to build an ark after receiving 26 inches of rain in 5 days and just toodlin’ along.

1. Playin’ Hookie

I started attempting to crochet a scrap blanket for Anna Grace’s bed.  I was inspired by one that Debi made several months ago.

Scrap Blanket

After multiple failures I seem to finally be on a roll.  I’m using up scraps that are left over from all of the pairs of socks that I’ve knitted through the years.

2. Wiggle Worms

There’s a whole new level of crazy goin’ on around here.  Dana (although he denies it) forgot my birthday this year.  I had the flu, he was sick, AG was sick, etc.  So the other day I said…hey, I know what I want for my birthday…ya know…the one you forgot!  (Insert long, drawn out claims that he did not forget my birthday…blah, blah, blah) I want a Can O’ Worms.  In other words: a worm composter.

My “present” arrived this week.  Unfortunately, it can’t go outside just yet because of all the rain. So….it is sitting in my kitchen which freaks me out just a tad.

3. Socky Socks

The Absinthe socks are 2 rounds away from being finished. I think I may try to finish them up this evening.

4.  Eau de Cardboard

Aaahh… there’s nothing like the smell of cardboard filling the house.  😛

The packing has begun.  Dana and I packed up much of the kitchen today.  We have not had to pack ourselves for our last 2 moves.  In other words… it has been 7 years since we had to pack boxes and ya know what….packing boxes is a nasty, nasty job.  Hatin’ it.  But we made a big dent in the job today plus I did the ole trick of cleaning up the house via packing boxes.  That’s one way  to declutter.  :-)

5.  Irony: We Haz It!

We have had 26 inches of rain in 5 days.    We have received less than 20 minutes of sunlight over the past 5 days.  We’ve received more rain in 5 days than this area received through the entire 2004 hurricane season (in which we were hit by three successive stroms!).  Meanwhile…. Washington has been enjoying beautiful, glorious sunshine and no rain.

That’s all for this week. Stay tuned tomorrow evening for the posting of the coupon code for this week’s episode of Mondays are for Moving Sales.

  1. I love packing boxes. It’s the only time you get to truly see what you have…and how much you really don’t use. What I hate is unpacking and trying to figure out where to put all of the unneeded stuff in your new abode!!! When the company moved us to Atlanta 10 years ago, they packed us and moved us. Boy was I surprised when I opened a box and found they had packed a trash can…complete with the trash in it!!! GROSS!!

  2. Yes moving is a HORRIBLE job!!! Whenever I think of moving, I get sick. We don’t plan on going anywhere, but sometimes I get in the mood to *pretend* like I’m moving and will clean out a closet as if I’m moving. That’s usually all I get done!

The IO needs to find a job soon, it’s killing me that you are having such great sales when I can’t afford them!!!

  3. Sorry to rub it in, but hubby and I sat out on the deck today and enjoyed the lovely, lovely sunshine! Ben & Abby got so much water in their backyard that their fence fell down! We’re headed out there probably late June – maybe we can get together.

  4. i hate hate hate moving.. but yet i get bored in the same place for too long.. i think i shall blame my parents for this one :) send the rain this way.. i need a good thunderstorm! :)

  5. Oh man, I HATE packing. The only thing worse is unpacking all that crap at the other end.

And it’s funny, we just had a discussion about getting a composter yesterday. We all must have worms on the brain.

  6. The blanket looks great! Just be aware, I washed mine and “something” ran and now some of the colors are muddy and not as vibrant as the were :(

It’s been raining cats and dogs down here too…I figure the more rain now, the less ‘cane later :)

  7. We had a great worm bin in NZ! At one point in time there was a little, grey mousie living in it. Worm bin #1 was a complete disaster – smelly, mucky, DISGUSTING!! But, after doing some more research and figuring out what I did wrong – and spening a couple of hours rescuing worms from the muck, worm bin attempt #2 was awesome. Sadly, I couldn’t bring it on the plane.
