How about a list?
1. The doctor called one day earlier this month and said that one of my tests came back abnormal and that I had an even higher probability of this baby having Down’s Syndrome. Even though those tests only discuss probabilities, etc., I knew it was something that I would worry about and wonder about. I decided to have an amnio and while I wasn’t looking forward to it, the whole procedure was not nearly as bad as I had feared. And the result… Sprig is perfectly normal, healthy and has a normal genetic profile.
And…. Sprig is a boy.
I’m excited about that last part but also scared to death. On my side of the family, this is the first boy in 44 years and all my friends keep telling me stories about what their sons are doing and I. Am. Terrified!!!!
I am hopeful, however, that boys have a much lower “drama queen” quotient because AG’s has been running really high lately and I might go insane.
2. Anna Grace had an important business meeting earlier this week. She needed to consult with Santa.
3. Calm. I am actually pretty calm this week (except for the dog + cake incident) and AG and I are just spending time together. In the evenings we’ve just been doing some fun Christmas stuff like driving around town and seeing all the light displays. I shipped the last gift box out today and I have just one present that I’m still working on but…. its doubtful that it will be finished by Friday morning. DOUBTFUL!!
4. We had a great day on Sunday. All the kids sang in church and AG got on her Sunday best. Grandma and Grandpa H. even came to church to watch her sing. Dana took some pictures afterwards using our same “say something gross” technique. Works like a charm.
5. I finished another gift but I can’t show you a picture just yet. I’ll post it on Ravelry and then I’ll post here after the gift arrives, etc.
6. Kinda got a bad set of nerves/heebies over knitting gifts. Haven’t done that much before and keep second guessing myself.
7. Really wanted to go to the Gator Bowl and see Bobby Bowden’s last game. Tickets weren’t all that expensive and we decided to wait until FSU got their official invite. Well…. guess who didn’t get tickets?!!? From the moment that the invite was announced, the tickets sold out in 20 minutes. I’m now thinking we need to hold our own “Bowden Bowl” in my living room.
8. Saw in the Orlando Sentinel that for the Christmas season the state of Florida is hosting Twelve Days of Fugitives. That sounds festive and cheery.
9. In a moment of complete denial and being fully delusional…I signed up for 10 in ’10. This is a group of folks that commit to knit 10 shawls in 2010 (group is on Ravelry if you’re crazy enough to sign up). I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking since… ya know… I’m going to have a baby in 4 months leaving me with ALL SORTS of free time!!! But… I signed up. I’m crazy but I signed up.
10. My daughter has instituted a plan to send me straight to Crazytown by making this little reindeer set sing Jingle Bells over and over again. FOR FOUR WEEKS!!!! I’m thinking if the CIA used this tactic, insurgents would spill all their secrets in less than 5 minutes. Trust me on this!!!
That’s about all that is going on around here. What’s happening at your house???
It’s a healthy boy – how wonderful! Here’s what I think about boys vs. girls. Boys are like puppies, they love you no matter what. Girls are like cats, sometimes they ignore you but they always like you. And then they become teenagers and all bets are OFF!
I love the pictures of Anna Grace and Santa! So sweet.
And boys? I have 4 of them and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. Girls? I always wanted one, but they are an unknown to me. I always said I wanted grand-daughters, but now I just want more boys. They are sweet, adventurous, funny and impish. They are never dull. And when they grow up, they give you girls.. and always want Mama’s traditions.
Congratulations.
Those are good pictures of AG, and the one of both of you is terrific! And the amnio news is just the best! Do you have boy names picked out yet??
Oh, and boys?? We have 3 of them as grandchildren, all under the age of 6. Get ready for armpit farts and belching contests. Seriously, by age 4 they think that’s funny already.
Congratulations on the healthy boy! My oldest is a boy, and while the idea scared me, the reality rocks. He’s a cool little dude.
I signed up for 10 in 10 too. InSANE.
Your Santa is gorgeous! He looks so traditional, not like the sad ones at the mall.
Glad that all is well with the baby! And boys…hmm…well, my girl was never the typical chatty, girly-girl, so it’s hard to say…but boys are pretty amazing…as long as you know how to laugh! Example…went to Outback last night (for the annual JCI Orlando branch office Christmas party, that consists of only our family), and Joel (who by the way is 18) let out a belch that would have registered on the richter scale. People all around us looked over…murmered and some laughed. He thought it was awesome…and James and I just laughed out loud, cause what else were we gonna do! Never a dull moment with boys around!
So glad little Sprig is healthy! And a boy, too!! As the mother of two boys I can say you can rest easy. Boys are wonderful. Much less drama, although perhaps a little more energetic. Although that too is variable. I had one of the most laid back, calm boys on the face of the planet (Ben). Love the pictures of AG with Santa – they are beyond precious!
That’s wonderful news – congratulations! And it’s great that your mind is at ease now!
The photos in your post are beautiful! Every last one of them would look great framed.
Wonderful news about Sprig! I LOVE that pic of you and AG!
A boy – congrats! As the mom of 3 boys after 2 girls, I have to say there’s nothing like it! I swore I only ever wanted girls, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Granted, they have LOTS more energy, but there is NOTHING like the hugs and kisses and proclamations of “I Love You Mommy!” Have fun learning all about trucks ans trains and dinosaurs and all those other fun boy things!
Oh, and I almost forgot, when it’s time for potty training and those countless trips to public toilets, it’s Dana’s turn!
Thanks also for sharing all your pics of AG, what a doll!
Prayers for nothing but wonderful things for you and your family.
A healthy boy! That’s so exciting!
I’m the parent of two boys, and they’re the only boys in their generation. My mom had four girls, one boy. Her sister had seven girls, one boy. And I’m the girliest girl in my family, yet I had two boys!
They’re fabulous. Not as emotional, very quick to recover from boo-boos (usually just dust it off and keep going), and cheerful. There’s nothing like the relationship of a mother and son. My sisters’ girls are always trying to establish independence from their mothers. Not my boys! They’re on me like white on rice!
I’m so happy for you. Sometimes good things happen to good people.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, too.
Lety
Don’t believe it about boys. I had 3 and then a girl…… if I’d had her first I would’ve had 1 child!!! My boys were handfuls…. then came my real nightmare!!! Have fun with him and good luck, happy holidays!!!!
😀 Carla
Congrats on the boy! When I was preg with Emma, my triple-screen test came back with an “extremely high” probability of Downs’ syndrome as well. It was scary, and I was thoroughly freaked out, but thankfully the amnio came back normal.
Great pictures!
You know, if you are having a boy, people tell you horror stories about boys. If you are having a girl, it’s horror stories about girls. Kids are challenging, period.
(I chose not to know the sex, and boy, did it save a lot of hassle!)
Good luck and you’ll be just fine.
A healthy baby boy!!! WOOHOO!!!!!! Boys vs girls?? BOth my kids have broken the mold of expectations so really all you have to remember is to cover the little *sprig* when changing his diaper! LOL
a boy! YAY! a new adventure for your family and I know you will be fine even if he has his terrible moments (we all do). You look absolutely amazing in that picture with AG, can you share your secret?
