I Quit

Each night I work on one of my knitting projects and Dana says the same things:
"Are  you enjoying yourself?"
"You don’t look like you’re enjoying yourself."
"You have a scowl on your face.  What’s that scowl mean?"

All these observations occur when I’m working on the Flower Basket Shawl.  I’m struggling with the lace weight, I’m not feelin’ the love and this weekend the whole thing just blew up into one big mess.

And it was then that I added a new "resolution" to my list of "non-resolutions" for 2008.  I will no longer continue working on a project I hate.  I will change the yarn or quit or something.  Life’s too short to let your knitting get you irritated!

And so I yanked it off the needles.  After 7 repeats it now looks like this….

a big lump of nothing.

I thought about it for a while and I cast on again (yes this would be attempt number 7… what’s your point?)

This is Smooshy Sock in the color Cool Fire.  Enjoying the pattern more.  Just disappointed in myself that I didn’t finish the pattern in the laceweight.

Maybe I should add one more "non-resolution" to that list.  And that resolution is this….Enough already with the being "disappointed with myself"… I mean really…. that’s gotta end!

In other news…. we did a little mini-update for the yarn shop.  We’ve added 2 great new yarns: Urban Gypz and Whimy Pinzy sock yarns.  We also stocked up on Dream in Color Classy.

Anna Grace and I are driving up to Atlanta tomorrow.  My dad is in Atlanta for a week so we’re heading up to see him.  I’m going to try to keep posting while I’m gone but just in case…. I’ll catch up with ya when we get home Saturday.

Toodles y’all!!!!

  1. Knitting with laceweight makes me good and crabby and I just won’t do it anymore. Knitting shouldn’t be scowl inducing.

    I love the new incarnation!

  2. My family lives in Atlanta too. We will be driving up there in a few weeks to welcome a new nephew! I’ll be praying for you on the drive. A few points of interest–there are drive thru Starbucks right off I-75 in Valdosta and Tifton.

  3. Yes, enough already with the scowls and disappointment–life is too short! It’s one thing to persist through a challenging spot, but if you are just not feeling the love, well–there’s so much else out there to be knit! I feel the same way about books now, too…I used to feel compelled to finish a book even if I didn’t enjoy it–puritan work ethic, I guess. Then I realized that there is more on my “to read” list than I will ever finish in my lifetime (and I’m still in my mid, er, late 30s…) so why waste valuable reading time on duds? Same with knitting… :)

  4. Yup. If you don’t like it, take the scissors to it, chop it into bits, then move on to something fun.

And I am not going over there to the shop to look. Not. Going. To. Look….

  5. GOOD! it wasn’t meant to be..like I said on my latest post-a homicide craft detective will NOT be at your door. the pattern and yarn perhaps didn’t go together. I’m so glad you ended it. (gosh, that doesn’t sound good) Move on to your other project 4 sure! I’m right behind you!

  6. Get over the laceweight. I HATE laceweight. I knit a lot of lace, and I knit it mostly in fingering and I am happy. Sometimes I even do it in worsted. I love th pattens and improvise, it is all good.

  7. I bet you’ll be glad you made the switch to fingering weight – the Flower Basket Shawl is pretty tiny in lacewt….and boy is that Smooshy yarn pretty!!
