A Wink and a Smile

There’s a line out of an old song that says “We go together like a wink and a smile”.  When I got married I danced to that song….with my grandfather.  It seemed like the perfect choice for the two of us.

My Wedding Day

We were so close that I asked him to help walk me down the aisle.  So Dad was on one side, Grandpap on the other.  It seemed just perfect to have Grandpap there too.

Grandpap and Anna Grace…4 Days Old

He lived life to the fullest and didn’t care too much about what anyone else thought about it.  He tended to be the life of the party.

Grandpap had come through wars, accidents, surgeries, health scares, cancer, you name it, and so, it seemed, he would outlive us all.  He almost did.  Today, at the age of 90, he passed away.

  8. I’m so sorry, Kris. It’s hard to lose someone that has been so close, even at the end of a long and happy life. Keep remembering the things that you have had, rather than the things that are lost while you say goodbye. It looks like you have a lot of good things to hold on to.

  9. It’s always so hard to lose loved ones, especially those who are so very dear to our hearts. I’m sorry. May you find comfort and peace in this difficult time.

  12. I read your blog for the first time today and saw this post. I, too, add my thoughts and condolences for your loss. But I have to tell you, even as an outsider looking in at your pictures, I can see he was full of life! Look at how HAPPY he is at your wedding! A picture is worth a thousand words and it is, without a doubt, a simple fact he absolutely adored you! What a proud GrandPap he is holding Anna Grace!! I know he will be immensely missed, but I also know, if these pictures you’ve lovingly shared with us are any indication, there are so many wonderful memories available for you to pass down to your beautiful little girl.
