We had a great time exploring the Columbia River Gorge. We took a side trip to see Mt. Adams and eventually detoured all the way to the Pacific Ocean. I’ll be putting up a few photo heavy posts…. you’ve been warned.
So, let’s get started.
Friday I took Anna Grace to therapy and then we went to meet up with Dana. We grabbed some lunch and then headed for the state line. The Columbia River forms the state line for much of Oregon and Washington. A portion of the river travels through a gorge and this is the National Scenic Area of the Columbia River Gorge.
First we took in the Washington side of the gorge.
Columbia River Gorge: View from Cape Horn
You’ll notice all the lush, green landscape. The gorge is only lush and green halfway through, the rest is a desert climate. This is much like the landscape of Washington. The "Evergreen State" is only "evergreen" over 1/3 of its area. The remainder of the state is a desert climate. It was very obvious when traveling through the gorge where the lush green landscape of the Cascades ended and the desert began.
Mount Adams
We took a detour to see Mount Adams and explore some of the surrounding area.
Ice Cave
In the Mount Adams area there is this cool ice cave (just outside of the town of Trout Lake). You don’t have to hike to it, you just walk right up from the parking area. The temperature change going up and down the ladder is quite dramatic. This is a great place for kids and the adults like looking at all the cool ice formations.

Langfield Falls
Also just outside of Trout Lake. This is an easy hike for kids although they need to have their hand held tightly as the path goes along a ledge. A ledge I nearly fell down. But lets not talk about that.
Knitting?
For knitting content I can tell you that while traveling on Friday I finished the front of Monica and I started the back while watching T.V. that evening.
