My Land!
I have never had so many fireworks, bottle rockets, etc going off at one time around my house. Dana and I were just discussing that this may be because we never lived in a close neighborhood before but I don’t know. I haven’t seen this many explosions since those redneck New Years Eve celebrations of my childhood. (Redneck New Years…. there’s not enough therapy in the world to help you recover from that one!)
I’m with you on that one! I think it’s the easy availability of illegal fireworks from the Indian reservations. In most communities anything that actually blows up or explodes is illegal, but you can buy all you want on the reservations. My husband is a retired fire inspector and needless to say, July 4th has never been one of his favorite holidays!
It has varied for us, from house to house, the noise on the 4th of July. I prefer quiet.
HA! I really do wonder what the attraction is…
I’m with you on that one. I live in Tenn. and you should have heard it last night. My neighbor’s dog was so scared he tried to climb up into my lap (and he’s a Chow). Oh the joys of redneck holidays. Plus there’s a residual effect. Meaning they start firing things off days before the holiday and lingering days afterwards!
It is indeed insane here. Wait till NY Eve. My favorite is when I have to get up at 5:30 on July 5th to go to work. I was SO tempted last year to turn on the stereo and blast Sousa music out the back yard. A little Stars and Stripes Forever at 5:30 AM might have changed their ways.
