Updates

I figured some updates were about due…

1. Stepfather.  SF was put back in the hospital last week due to an infection.  It is unclear when he will be able to return to the nursing facility.  My mom is holding up okay.   Her close friend just passed away and she is taking care of her parents plus my stepfather.  All in all, I am surprised at how well she is doing.  I am trying to figure out a way of taking AG and going to North Carolina for a few days.

2. Anna Grace.  Her speech has taken off again and she has really "grown up" over the past week.  She is starting to tell me what she wants to wear, even how to fix her hair. In some ways she is 3 going on 30.  Lord help me.

Her  OT re-evaluated her the other day and we got the results back.  The biggest issue was the sensory stuff.  What I was surprised to see was that her fine motor skills were listed as "at age level".  I about flipped.  Her gross motor skills (an area that I thought had big delays) was listed only as "mild delay".

She has grown by leaps and bounds in the past month.  It has been amazing to watch.

3. Telemark:  No change.

4. Forest Path Stole:  I am almost finished with Tier 2.  I think I am actually at the point where I have encountered most of the glitches and have made it through without being totally derailed.  Now I just have to trudge along.  It takes me quite a while to knit even one of those diamonds so I will likely be the very last finisher.

Oh…. watching 3 episodes of 24 while trying to knit FPS…. Really! Dumb! Idea!  (Oh…and Greys where George and Izzy ya know…. I dropped a stitch over that!)

5. Speaking of 24:  I literally gasped out loud (and may have said something unladylike) when President Logan answered that phone.  Oh. My. Word.

6. The Dulaan Drawer:  I cleaned out the bedside tables a few weeks back. This left an empty drawer on my side of the bed.  I have decided to keep a Dulaan work in progress in there.  So, I knit a bit on whatever Dulaan project right before I go to bed.  Nothing complicated.  Just your basic knitting.

7.  It’s almost time for World Grits Day.  Be prepared.  You’ve been warned.  And this year…. prizes.

8.  Called Chilliwack.  Got all of my questions answered regarding the carders, differences between carders, etc. Paula Green even taught me something about sheep in the midst of our conversation.  I learned many things, like the fact that driving up there may actually cost me more in the long run and the carder would arrive quicker if I just ordered it.

There were things about this possible day trip that I didn’t know/consider.  First, price of carder includes shipping regardless of whether you pick it up.  Second, words like "customs", "duty", etc.  The Greens apparently load the carders up, cross the Canadian border and ship them all from within the US.  This way their customers don’t have to worry about customs and such.  They make the short trek to the US every 2 weeks. Thus they would be able to ship the carder before I would even be able to drive up there.  So…..

I typed up a letter and ordered my carder.  They do things the old fashioned way up there. They have no internet. They take no credit cards.  They have no order forms.  They take no phone orders.  You just write them a letter and include your check.  Okeedoke.

In addition to the carder I ordered a book written by Paula Green called Spinning for Softness and Speed.

9. Brown:  The carder is going to come UPS.  This is going to send my little UPS man right over the edge.  I think "Brown"  is already convinced that I’m a few bricks short of a load.

10. Rain:  There’s lots of it. But we’ve been getting more and  more sunshine.  Woo Hoo.  Lots more. ("lots more" by Washington standards.  Your mileage may vary).

  1. When George and Izzy started getting drunk together I saw it coming and put my knitting down. You see, experienced lace knitters know not to tempt fate (hee hee!)

  2. Kris I’m glad to hear that your carder will soon be on it’s way. And by the weight of that carder Mr. “Brown” might think you are having the few bricks your short sent to you via UPS! Thanks for showing me such a great time in Seattle. I’ll be posting an update just as soon as I can stay awake long enough after dinnerto do so.
