Uninterrupted Snuggle

Anna Grace hopped in my lap tonight (with Leapfrog drum in tow) and scrunched beside me in the chair.  We watched Jeopardy and listened to the drum sing "play the drum, everyone, play the drum".  She just sat there as quiet as can be.  Then she sat there through Wheel of Fortune.  I loved it, just tried to stay in the moment with her.  When I was putting her to bed she stopped drinking her milk and just rested there in my lap looking at the ceiling.  Peaceful and quiet.  I rocked her there for a bit, enjoying the time with her.  It was a way to end the day.

Note: In this household, Wheel of Fortune is known as Wheel of Torture.  I can’t stand to even here it in the background.  Much to my dismay, The Toddler walked in the living room one night about three weeks ago and became instantly fascinated with the show.  So, I now have to sit through a portion of it each night.  Ick!

The gift I’m working on won’t come even close to being completed by the end of the month.  I am knitting this ribbing until the piece measures 16 inches.  I’ve been knitting forever and it’s no where close.  Matter of fact, I can sit and knit for an hour on the thing and when I measure it, it’s hardly grown at all.  I had set aside Rogue’s sleeves for a bit while I worked on this gift exclusively.  Well, no more.  Those sleeves are coming out A.S.A.P.  I’m bored, need something a bit more interesting to knit.

I got a good laugh this evening.  I was reading Whitney Gaskell’s post about her son and the word Uh-Oh.  We are also living in the land of uh-oh so this cracked me up.  Anna Grace’s favorite trick: drop something out of the shopping cart and shout "uh oh".

Thanks for the encouragement regarding Liz.  I am considering sending a care package and have been looking on different websites to see what most folks send.  This brought up a question.  Now…keep in mind, I’m a product of the Florida school system… a state where geography is not taught and I am living proof of this.  One of the websites suggested sending knitted caps/hats and mittens.  Why?  This is a desert, right?  Does it get cool enough for a knitted hat?  I knew about heat, sandstorms, etc but not cold.  Reminds me of when Jo (who lives in Australia) posted pictures of her family playing in the snow.  My first thought… what snow?  It snows in Australia??  Thankfully someone else posted  the same thing.

Still negotiating on the house.  I should know more tomorrow.

  1. If memory serves, the desert gets unbelievably cold during the dark hours but maybe not all deserts. A quick search for “Iraq” turned up http://www.iraqdaily.com which showed a high of 70-something and a low of 49 so it may be turning cooler there (more fall/winter-like) as well.

Suggestions, based on what a local group here sends: baby wipes, phone cards, M&Ms, hand sanitizer are the ones I really remember. Don’t know the military’s policy on things like local newspapers but I bet a copy of one or two would be welcome.

I hate the Wheel of Torture too but think it may have something to do with DD1’s remarkable spelling abilities at a young age. She watched it almost nightly with MIL and can spell darn near anything. Keep telling yourself AG can learn from it, even at her age. Hopefully her amazement with it will pass quickly.
