I had one of those moments last night where I sat in amazement over the fact that I’m allowed to work with kids, people trust me to make a diagnosis, I can legally write prescriptions and yet…. knitting patterns can go so awry when in my feeble little hands.
My Nancy Bush Friday Harbor socks will now be known as Not-Really-Friday-Harbor socks. Why? I was looking at the pattern as I was just about finished with the cuff. And then I noticed it. I had been doing the entire cuff using the charted pattern for the top of the foot. The cuff pattern was the other chart. I wondered why somebody designed a sock that was all stockinette stitch on the back of the leg but who am I to question a knitwear designer????
I started to frog the whole thing and then I decided that I would just proceed. They’re still socks. They don’t look freakish. They’re just not Friday Harbor socks. Do you think they’ll kick me out of the Nancy Bush Sock Knitters ring for this one? What constitutes a big enough sock knitting sin to get the boot?
Anyway, I’ll wind up some yarn to take to Florida with me so I can have something to knit on the plane. If I finish my Not-Really-Friday-Harbor socks then maybe, maybe, I’ll try to do an actual pair of Friday Harbor socks. Who knows!
Just another day in the life of a knitting WANNABE!
Yes but now it is your own design inspired by Nancy Bush! Now that is cool!
I have never successfully completed a pair of socks from that book
Know what? I have Knitting on the Road, Folk Socks and Vintage Socks and the only N.Bush socks I’ve ever knit are the Child’s First Sock from Vintage Socks. I also have some Gems Pearl in a beautiful Crabapple color than I have earmarked for the Child’s French Sock, also from VS.
You’re lucky you skipped the edging chart. It’s screwed up and doesn’t make the pretty scallops pictured unless you futz with it. (I’ve figured out a fix, if you’re interested.) But with the ribbing down the back of the leg, I’m sure they work fine without the edging. The knitting police won’t come get you.
Call them the Saturday Harbor Socks. You know, weekends are more lazy (hence half-stockinette).
