It has (so far) been a quiet and peaceful day around here. There’s even a slight breeze. Shocking!
This morning Lisa and I took Anna Grace and Isaac to a little park in Oakland and let them play while we sat lazily on some shaded benches and talked for a bit. Quiet and uneventful. Wahoo.
Other events…. on the quiet and uneventful scale….
I have been craving some sun tea so I bought the tea bags and set a batch out this afternoon. We used to do this when I was a kid. Dana doesn’t “get it” but he grew up in the north where sunlight wasn’t as plentiful.
Sun tea brewing ….. sunbathing
Now what is the sun tea sitting on? Well…. my husband tends to design things with lots of details, and archetectural interest… and sometimes big. Even when it is a swingset. Always looks cool but sometimes (as in the base of our dining room table) all those details tend to cause issues when it comes to dusting and such.
In this case, it just created a swingset…. a very cool swingset….that is much bigger than I had envisioned and it can be seen from miles around.
I returned from Columbus to find this in my back yard. (Created in such a way that he can dissassemble it when it is time to move.)
More swings, a slide and a railing for the “fort” portion are coming this week.
Side view and a peek at the tire swing shaped like a horse. My mother bought that for AG for Christmas.
Dana agreed to finish the project this week. I begged since he’s going to Washington next week and if this project is finished then AG can play a little more independently in the back yard. (At least… in theory.)
Regardless of its size (which I’m gettin used to) I’m pretty proud of the job he did. And, as you can imagine, Anna Grace is thrilled.
Other happenings on a quiet and uneventful day….
I had to do some more surgery on the spinning wheel. When I did it the last time my rubber band was too short and I had to shorten the string a bit when I tied it all together. End result, not a lot of flexibilty when it came to tension and a very un-fun and unsuccessful spinning experience.
Very high-tech, super important spinning wheel supplies
This time I used a longer, thinner rubber band and a very long piece of dishcloth cotton. End result, I’ve got way too much wiggle room when it comes to the tension but better to have too much than too little.
So… since the thing was fixed I did a little spinning.
A little bit of spinning
This is 60/40 Merino Bamboo roving by Yarn Love. It is from their Scarlett O’Hara roving line. The color is called Garden View. Post surgery…. the wheel is now much more pleasant to spin with… wahoo.
I got inspired to actually fix the thing when I saw a new group pop up on Ravelry the other day. It is called 10 Minutes a Day. It encourages folks to simply spin 10 minutes every day. Sounds doable so I jumped in and this was my first 10 minutes. I figure my skills would improve greatly if I would simply spin more. And things like spinning plant fibers (such as this wool and bamboo blend) might not be as difficult.
Well, that’s all that is going on around her on our quiet and uneventful day? Hope you are having a quiet and uneventful day as well.
my kids always wanted that horse swing!
I love the swingset! It looks just like something my husband would do. If the girls ever move back this way, you can be assured something like that would be cropping up in our backyard too.
That. swingset. rocks. Forget Speer Park…we’re comin’ your way.
How was the sun tea?
