No Proof

I got together with Michelle (who was visiting from British Columbia) and Lorette yesterday and we had a world class yarn crawl.  But, I have no proof.  Why?  Left the camera at home. (Doh!)

I do have loot.  Will that provide me with enough proof?

I came home with all sock yarn.  There’s Fleece Artist, Jitterbug, Mountain Colors and Schaeffer Yarn.  The Regia and the cute litte stitch markers were a "hello gift" from Michelle.  She made the stitch markers herself and they are way cute.

While we were visiting yarn shops we ran into Jessica.   Lorette and I had just finished having a discussion about which yarn shop was the one where Jessica worked.  We walk into The Fiber Gallery and there sat Jessica.  Not only was it cool running into Jessica but can I just say that the Fiber Gallery is one of the coolest yarn shops ever.  They have everything you can imagine.  In every color you could imagine.   Very cool.  I could have stopped yarn crawling right at that very moment and my day would’ve been complete.

Later in the day at a different shop I attempted to buy a drum carder.  I had called during the week on a few different occasions to ask about what they carried, what was in stock, etc but when I got to the store the girl told me to come back the next day to speak with someone else.  (I live an hour from the shop).  I asked a few questions but I felt like I was in this weird mind meld with the lady.  I think that it came down to she didn’t understand what I was saying and I wasn’t understanding what she was saying.  I gave  up.

The whole thing left me feeling odd.  I am always concerned that I have been rude or impolite, too pushy, etc and I have thought about it over and over.  I have tried not thinking about it.  I wish I could let such things just float away.  Anyway, left me feeling odd.  Still feel odd.   The odd feeling keeps coming back.  I tried to blame the rain.   Didn’t work.

So, I just feel odd.

But, not odd enough to give up on a drum carder.  Instead of calling the shop back I decided to take a different approach. If you want to know about the carder, why not just call the man who makes the carder.  So tomorrow I’m calling Chilliwack, British Columbia  and I’ll just ask them what the difference is between Candidate A and Candidate B.

It was kinda a "well, duh" moment when I figured out Saturday night that I could just call Pat Green.

Now here’s the part where Dana got a little concerned.  I also looked up Chilliwack on the map.  Ya see, you can buy your carder directly from Pat Green.  And he’ll ship it.  But you can also pick it up.  And guess what? Chilliwack, Canada isn’t all that far away.  It’s only 3.5 hours.  That is the same amount  of time it took me to get to the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival.  You can totally go to Chilliwack and back in a day.  Mapquest says so.  And ya know, Dana thinks all travel information revolves around the mapquest pixies.  So, I’m armed with information!   Because, ya know, if mapquest says so, it HAS to be right.  (Right, Dana?)

Dana had another point.  He says it may cost more in gas than it would to ship it.  And he’s probably right.  But my way is more fun and there’s scenery and new sites, new people to meet, etc.  It’ll be an adventure.

This is just like me.  I’m dreamin’ about a trip to pick up a drum carder that I haven’t even purchased.  Heck, I haven’t even totally decided whether I’m buying the thing.

But the day trip sounds fun.

  1. This really sucks! I no sooner leave Seattle and THEN I hear about all these really cool knitters and all these really cool field trips and adventures.

Glad you had a good time, but remember, those mapquest pixies lie. Guess I should blog about the time I accused a state trooper of telling fibs because he said I was lost!

  2. Great trip, great loot! I’ll send you some photos from Saturday when I get them off the camera. I’m posting my loot tomorrow.
If Dana won’t go to Chilliwack with you, I will. Seriously. We could pick up Dorothy on the way.

  3. You crack me up Kris!

    Nice sock yarn haul!

Listen, for the chance to hang with you, Lorette and Dorothy it’s almost worth a trip out to Seattle :)

  4. Wow, lovely sock yarn. I just got some Jitterbug. Love the color. And I have been eying Fleece Artist something fierce. I have no clue about spinning but the day trip does sound fun. :)
