Mr. Freeze

The highest temperature for today occurred just after midnight early this morning.  Temps have dropped progressively since then and tonight we may get frost, tomorrow night we’re almost guaranteed to have some frost or freezing.  So, I had to cover the plants.  The yard always looks lovely during these times.

This gave me a chance to check out how warm my Rogue hoodie could be.  The rest of me was cold but my trunk and arms were nice and toasty under that thing.  Today is the first time I’ve had a real chance to wear it and I’m very pleased.

I didn’t cover  all of the plants, just those that I thought were a little less cold-hearty and then I covered the smaller camelias so their buds didn’t drop.  Other than that I let things fend for themselves.  Most of the other plants can tolerate temps into the high 20’s except for out tibuchina (sp?).  But, it has gotten way too tall to cover and the times it has froze it just dropped it’s leaves and then sprouted them again a few weeks later.   In other words, this is all the plant coverin’ I’m willing to do this time.  Take what you can get and be happy with it or be quiet.
