Prairie Homestead:
A home still remains that was set up by a man who took advantage of the laws allowing homesteading. You can now tour the home and farm. It is a sod house surrounded by prairie dogs. We had a ball.
The house which is built into the side of a hill.
Anna Grace wasn’t the least bit interested in the prairie dogs. Instead she spent her time chasing the chickens yelling "here, chicken".
Prairie Dog. I bought some peanuts to feed to the prairie dogs. They were hilarious. They bark at one another to announce that intruders (us) are here. I thought Anna Grace would love seeing them. She was too busy with the chickens to even notice.
My mother told AG that she could pick up a chicken feather and keep it. Instead, Anna Grace chased the chickens and tried to stick the feather back in the chickens. The ladies working inside the gift shop were very entertained and my mother and I were busting up laughing.
Murdo, SD Statue:
This statue of a skeleton walking his pet dinosaur is alongside of I-90. I knew about it and was keeping an eye out. It is right at exit 170. I stood alongside the interstate to get a photo.
The Corn Palace:
The Corn Palace is in Mitchell, SD and each year it is decorated in a different theme (this year is a Rodeo theme). The decor is all done with corn cobs, corn husks, tassles, etc. Very cheesy but I had to see it.
This was also the site of our next injury. Anna Grace was stung by a bee and it was an ugly scene. I was a bit concerned because she is allergic to so many things and I was unsure of whether she would have an allergic reaction. No one in our family is allergic to bees but no one but her is allergic to the wheat, dairy etc. Thankfully, no allergic reaction.
From here we headed to Minnesota.
