So…. life got weird, back got weird, all sorts of weird, and I got out of the habit of blogging. I couldn’t figure out how to do the whole photo thing from the laptop…and with the back being weird (this post brought to you by the word weird) I have been stuck using the laptop, blah blah blah…weeks passed without any blog posts.
My bad.
Lots of little things went on. How about a list?
1. Sonny & Shear is celebrating its 2nd anniversary this month. And there’s a sale. Save 40% on all Fiesta Yarns, Lorna’s Laces yarns, Schaefer yarns, and Chewy Spaghetti yarns by using the coupon code HappyBirthday when you check out.
2. We did a little extended hike at Wekiva Springs State Park.
Big, long hike.
We started the hike because we were looking for 2 letterboxes. The hike got a little long when we got a little lost. Such is life.
3. We’ve had quite a bit of cold (or should I say…cold for us) weather.
4. My back is improving but if I sit for too long or take a long car ride then I lose ground.
5. For Five in a Row we are reading a book called Three Names. The main character of the book grew up on a prairie so we headed to….. Paynes Prairie.
Anna Grace Heading Toward the Watchtower.
Payne’s Prairie
Payne’s Praire is in the little town of Micanopy. (Ever watched the Michael J. Fox movie Doc Hollywood? That little town is Micanopy. ) The praire has always been here but there was a sink in the middle of it until 1873 when the sink filled up. A lake formed and was called Alachua Lake and boats began to run citrus across the lake, etc. That was until 1891 when the sink “unplugged” and all of the water ran back into the aquifer in less than a week.
American Buffalo (bison) once roamed here and a herd was brought back to the area in 1973 as part of a restoration effort, they still live here today ( but we didn’t see them). Other wildlife live here, lots of birds and even a group of wild spanish horses. It was a great place to come, read our book and talk to Anna Grace about prairies.
6. Dana’s job.
What job?
7. Letterboxing
We’ve been doing some letterboxing and even went over to the Nature Coast this weekend and found lots of letterboxes. Here’s one of the locations that is right by the Florida Barge Canal.
We found a box right by this pretty little area.
8. Hiding the evidence.
Anna Grace and I went to see Miss Sue this week.
Miss Sue and Anna Grace
AG got a hair cut, I got a hair cut and I got the gray covered. Anna Grace asked about that “stuff on my head” and I told her it was just there to hide the evidence.
9. Knitting…there has been much knitting but not much photography of knitting.
10. Upside down
I’ve become obsessed with the idea of growing tomatoes upside down. And squash…and cucumbers…. and zucchini. Some people read fine, literary fiction. I read websites about growing veggies upside down. Classy!
Wow you’ve been up this way. And we were just in Micanopy abt a month ago. I didn’t realize they had that out there. Then again we stayed at the Herlong Mansion and went antique shopping. Never took the time to see if there was more to the small town.
I meant to ask you about letterboxing today. It might be fun to tag along w/ AG & see how it works!
Great to see ya’ back on line…..
Hey! I’m fascinated by the upside down veggies too. Let’s talk!
The prairie is GORGEOUS – beautiful scenery!
And a definite “woo hoo!” on the sale
I am in Hawaii and you are not! I love you, Dad
