Kauai, Hawaii

This is a shot in the dark.

Y’all know about Anna Grace’s allergies, etc.  Well, we’re trying to prepare for a trip we’re taking in December.  For Dana’s parent’s 50th anniversary we’re all going to Hawaii.  We’re going to the island of Kauai, small island…. small towns.  Well, prior to the "no liquids on a plane" thing I was going to take a cooler of stuff with me (her foods, etc) frozen solid, and go on my merry way.

Not anymore.  I don’t think I should count on Mr. TSA man cooperating with that.  I’m not even sure I’ll be able to take a snack on the plane for her.  (This is going to get ugly!).

So here is my longshot question. Does anyone, know anyone, who knows anyone in Kauai that I could mail a box to?  Any ideas?

We’re not staying in a hotel so I can’t mail one there. We’re going to a vacation rental where there’s no office (we’ve already got the key) so I can’t mail one there.  Also afraid to risk that all the mail to that address is forwarded somewhere else and then I’ve got a toddler with nothing to eat but veggies. (Not pretty.)

I know it is a huge longshot but at this point I’ve got nothing to lose.  So anyone?  Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

  1. I don’t know anyone, but there is a really nice little grocery store there with prices that I didn’t think were too unreasonable. And they had a good selection of stuff. Of course, this was 5 years ago, but I assume it’s still there. It’s in the main township, can’t remember the name.

  2. Maybe you could contact the postmaster at the local post office and explain your situation. It is possible they would be willing to let you mail it to them and pick it up when you get there.
I hope it all works out.

  3. I know that you can send stuff to a post office for general delivery which means that you can pick it up there when you get there. But I am not sure about frozen stuff. But you still might try contacting the post offcie and they might be able to help you. Small towns are great that way.

And as to flying, I would suggest getting a note from AG’s doctor explaining the situationwith her diet and than call the TSA. I remember reading recently on on some one’s vegan blog about how they were able to carry onboard the small containers of soy milk. You have plenty of time to get things straightened out. Plus maybe by the time you get ready to leave, TSA will have relaxed the rules. Sometimes, they take things too far and they are just impractical.

  4. Check it. People check coolers of frozen fish from here all the time. It just has to be something that can be opened and inspected by TSA if they choose to do so without trashing the method of closing the thing back up.
