Independence Afternoon

Catchy titles I’ve got going here, eh?

So… when we left off we were havin’ some lunch.  After that we put AG down for nap and began to clean the house at warp speed.  Why, you may ask, are we doing house work on a holiday?  Well, although no one has been to see the house in nearly 10 days, somebody decided at  the last minute that they wanted to see the house that very day. (!!!!!)

So we cleaned.

Then we woke AG up from her nap so we could get out of the house prior  to the potential buyer (who better have a lot of "potential" if I had to give up part of my holiday for housework!) and we went downtown for Enumclaw’s 4th of July thingie.  The town’s plan was that they would have this fair like thing with a big slide and some crafts and such.  Then there would be a parade at 6.  Then fireworks.  Heat in the 90’s was not on their schedule.

Anyway…. we headed over there but we bailed out prior to the parade.

Here’s more photos…..

The pony ride.  Note the lack of hysterics and theatrics.  Although she had been on many a pony ride by that time, when the pony came to our house for her birthday she acted like it was a great big monster.  This is the same pony outfit that came to the house that day and the actual pony was right behind her.  This is how she usually acts when doing a pony ride which is why I thought the birthday idea was a good one.  Oh well.

So to sum up…. there was music, there was a slide, there was stuff to do, there were ponies and there was a lot of heat.

Going to things like this are a mixed bag for me.  Often it is like a kick in the gut because you see kids that can just instinctively do something and Anna Grace just can’t figure it out.  This day was different.  Yes, she couldn’t make the bubble thing work when the 2 year old could but she figured it out much quicker.  And yes, the noises bothered her but she adapted and pushed through.  She seemed to understand that there’s fun to be had but we have to put up with these uncomfortable things to have that fun.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that there was still that kick-in-the-gut moment but it was followed by a lot of hope.

She’s growing up.  But her apraxia is resolving as well.  It may never completely resolve, but hopefully we can find ways to adapt and she can have a very normal life.
