DANA… DON’T READ THIS PARTICULAR POST, PLEASE.
Ok… he more than likely will follow that request. He’s pretty good about such things and he’s not a real "peek at your Christmas packages" kind of guy. I’m more of the "gimme a hint" type than him.
Anyway… the 5 x 3 ribbing project is a present for Dana. A while back I thought about knitting him a sweater. I showed him some patterns and yarn samples and he showed me what he liked and didn’t like. Then time got away from me and Rogue entered my life.
Anyway… I thought about knitting this as a gift and was wondering if I could get it finished in time for our anniversary (NOPE!). So now I’m trying to get atleast most of it done by his birthday. If not, it’ll surely be finished by Valentine’s day… don’tcha think.
Here’s the pattern I’m using. No… I’m not using that million dollar yarn they used in the pattern. Dana would freak if he thought the yarn cost that much. He is, afterall, Budget Boy.
Anyway… I’m working on the back. The same back I swore I would finish last night. But lets not talk about that, shall we. OK, I’ve bound off the stitches in the middle for the neck and I’m getting ready to work on the back right shoulder. The pattern tells me to bind off 7 stitches… on the arm side… not the neck side. It’s been a while since I’ve made something with neck and shoulder shaping… and I am a knitting newbie… but shouldn’t those bind offs be on the neck side not the arm side. (If this is a stupid question feel free to commence laughing.) On the neck side I’m also decreasing but by using a k2tog.
I did a search on Leo + Knitting and mostly what I see are sights where folks are talking about how to buy and where to buy the million dollar yarn. I haven’t found anything on these sleeves.
What think????
I don’t know if this helps but the pattern is labeled piquant and I think it said it’s because it is supposed to have a set in sleeve. (BTW, can I just say for all the world to know that I hate Knitty’s little difficulty scale. I know it’s supposed to be cute but I don’t even know how to say piquant.)
It’s pronounced PEE – KWANT.
You want to decrease BOTH at the neck and the armhole side. The neck to form the scooped out shape and the arms because a set in sleeve has a gradual curve to form the cap. Usually you bind off a certain # then decrease every X # of rows form the gentle curve and then bind off the remaining stitches.
As a newbie, you might enjoy Ann Budd’s book of Sweaters where you can become more familiar with all types of sweater construction.
