I Don’t Wanna Be the Knitting Wannabe

I had a great idea, or so I thought.  The toddler is always trying to get into the yarn, etc.  Meanwhile, I have been toying with the idea of getting a "blog skin" and changing the look of the blog.  This explains why you have recently seen the color scheme, etc changed around,… I was trying to see if I could do things myself.  I have noticed that some blog themes that folks have made up for them I really like and some are downright distracting.  Over the weekend I realized that I like the minimalist way I have mine set up right now but I just needed something that looked more relative to the title etc.

I saw a photo recently of a small dog wearing a bright pink scarf and I thought that would be great for the "knitting wannabe" theme, etc but then I changed my mind.  The photo I have on the blog right now is nearly a year old and it does need  to be updated.  So, my wheels started spinning and I had a thought.  Stick Anna Grace in the yard, the middle of the floor, somewhere with a bunch of yarn, let her go hog wild and take her picture.  Voila…. knitting wannabe.  I thought she would think this was a pretty cool idea.

She had other thoughts.

Here is Anna Grace bolting from the pile of yarn….

Once she sat down to play with the yarn (just cheap acrylic stuff), then she bolted again….

And finally, I caught up with her on the steps and tried my best….

At this point she informed me that she was "all done" and that was the end of that.  I think I’ll use one of these for the blog until I get another chance to try again.  It just goes to show…. tell a toddler they can’t play with something and its all they want to play with. Give the toddler the same item and suddenly they think its poisonous!

Oh well. I’ll post one of the photos up on the blog today and see how it looks.

In hurricane news, some large portion of Florida is going to get hit by this monster.  I thought I had almost made it through my last hurricane season but it appears I miscalculated.   Wilma is supposed to make some sharp turn here soon and if the turn is as sharp as they predict, most of her wrath will go to the southern part of the state and I’ll end up with a light hurricane like winds/rain, or more likely, a tropical storm.   Heading south is bad for Deb because she lives down that way.

If Wilma doesn’t make quite as sharp a turn, she’ll head right over central Florida and my house, thus the southern portion of the state will then get the "light hurricane" and tropical storm and the central portions will take the hit.  Either way it pretty much stinks.

I can’t decide whether to stay or go.  I wish I had a better idea of where it was heading.  If it heads south (most forcasters feel it will) I am ok with staying here.  It will be a long and yucky weekend but I wouldn’t be too worried.  But, Charley was supposed to not really give me a direct hit in August of 2004 and that puppy ended up going right over my house due to its last minute change of course.

If I leave, where to go?  I’m considering if the thing starts heading here, should I try to get a last minute flight to Washington or should Dana try to get here.  My thinking on Dana coming here is that if something did happen to the house we could try to at least salvage something.  Dana and I both agree that the house is probaby fine.  Its a 1920’s Arts and Crafts Bungalow but its very solid.  The problem is that it is situated beneath the canopy of two very large oak trees.

My head tells me maybe we should go, my gut is telling me to stay.  I’ll have to decide in the next 24 hours or so and take the gamble:  fly out of here or stay.  I hope that silly thing makes its turn soon so Floridians can get a better idea of what they’re up against.

Well… off to watch weather men in all their glory (they really get a little too into this around here…. some of them seem just giddy.  Makes ya nuts!).

  1. Like you say, perverse how kids always want to do what they’re not supposed to but, if invited to do the same thing, no longer want to! :-) The photo is good though – I like it! Really hope the hurricane misses you. By the way, thanks for your kind comment on my blog recently.

  2. AG looks fricken adorable! I can’t believe how much she’s growing. Of course, it might be that I’ve been missing pictures for close to a month! Oh my, I hope the hurricane misses you! I like the looks of the site and I think the pic is a keeper.
