Happy New Year

We’ve had a blech day here in the PNW.  Lots of rain.  Lots of clouds.  Lots of gloom.  I know I should just get a contented little spirit and be thankful since I’ve had sunshine for the past three days.  Too bad.  My blog.  I’m complaining.

Moving on….

It is New Years Resolution time again and I’m still claiming that I’m not making any resolutions.  Once again, I’ll try to exercise more.  Blah blah blah.  Last year I made knitting resolutions.  We can check on them here. Now this is the closest I have ever come in my entire life to keeping all of my NYR’s.

Let’s check on the list…..

Knit a lace shawl?  Yep
Learn Fair Isle?  Yep (currently in progress)
Improve my finishing skills?  Yep – I think.  Always room for more improvement but I’ve learned a lot in this area.
Design my own sweater?  NOPE.
Increase my knitting speed?  Yep.  Seems to have naturally picked up a bit plus I’m finishing projects a tad quicker.
Charity Knitting?  Yep – sorta.  I knit all those baby hats for the breastfeeding promotion thing back over the summer.  And I have signed up for the Knit 5 or bust Dulaan project.  I haven’t started any of the projects yet.
Learn to spin?  Yep

So that is about an 80-85% completion rate for knitting NYR’s.  Not bad.  Actually, for me, that is downright fantastic.

What about 2007?

Non-knitting NYR’s?
I’m not making any NYR’s regarding things I’ll improve about myself, etc.  I am going to try harder to just accept myself and work toward being healthier because I want to, not because I feel pressured to.

Instead of the usual NYR’s I’m going to make goals of things I want to do or see.  So here are my site seeing/must experience NYR’s for 2007.

See Washington lighthouses that I haven’t already seen (There are 26 total, I’ve seen about 5 or 6 of them)
See the Peace Arch.
Visit Palouse Falls.
Go to Crater Lake.
Go to the Experience Music Project.

Knitting NYR’s…..

Carried over from last year…. Design my own sweater
Learn Intarsia (just to say I did)
Learn to knit continental style (just to say I did)
Knit another lace shawl
Knit a sweater for Anna Grace
Stop stressing about the knitting and just knit
Try to knit at least a little bit every day.

OK, enough of that.

Thanks to all of y’all for your great ideas and help on the sock knitting for webbish feet.  I had to dig onto the blog to read them because Hubby Tech Support did something awful and shut  down my email.  Oops.  He promises never to do it again.  (!)  Anyway, due to that I can’t respond personally to some of your recent comments. I did, however, receive some great ideas!!!!

Hubby promises he won’t mess up the blog comments/email ever again.  The problem appears to be fixed.  Phew!

I had a fun time tonight.  I went to Lorette’s  to sit and to knit and to enjoy great company.  I also got to enjoy her fantastic black eye peas so I should be "set" when it comes to good luck in 2007!  They were quite yummy and the recipe is on her blog.

As a side note I attempted to purchase black eye peas here in Enumclaw today.  When I finally asked the store manager about where they were he was a bit stumped.  The question really threw him.  Turns out, no BEP’s in Enumclaw. This could explain the bizarre weather and windstorms.  I’m just sayin’!

  1. I’m so jealous that you got to sit and knit with Lorette and eat her black eyed peas – they looked so good! Another of our southern favorites are purple hull peas – we always stock up when we go to Missouri. But they only come in cans, so we’re limited in what we can bring back. Good work on the goals for last year.

  2. I’m still working on my resolutions. Maybe the first one should be to stop procrastinating and get things done on time.
I had a great time knitting and eating last night! Hope Dana and Anna Grace enjoyed the leftovers.
Don’t forget, I want to BE there when you cut those steeks. That sounds like a bourbon job.

  3. I have absolutely no idea what black eye peas are ??? And why would they be lucky??? Now I have to go find out…..and what are the chances of them being available anywhere in the UK.

  4. I am so sorry to have missed all your posting. My regards to your family during this time…this must me very hard! gosh, and then the weather you had to the experience and then at the school (I would have had the same reaction…and they wonder what’s wrong with our education system?) On a higher note, I love your new and improved snowman! I’m back now reading. I feel like I’ve missed so much! Peace be with you and your family!
