Gift Knitting On Hold, Rogue Up to Bat

Well, I was cruising along this weekend on the gift. I realized that I was going to run out of yarn but I truly thought that I’d get finished with piece #3. Wrong again.

Here’s the yarn I have left as piece #3 languishes in the knitting bag only 2/3 complete.

I have placed an order for more yarn but, with the holidays and mail being backed up, who knows when it will arrive.  I have no problem whatsoever wrapping up a partially complete gift where certain people are concerned so…. I’m not worried.  I’d just like to be a bit farther along.

So, with the delay in the gift knitting, Rogue came back onto the playing field and I’ve been working steadily on the last sleeve.  I’ve finished the chart portion and am now working through the increase rows.

Rogue will be a real test for me on the powers of blocking.  I usually do a steam block but last week when I blocked the Here and There Cables, I did it by soaking the thing in a wool bath.  That was the first time I had done that with the exception of my sockapal2za socks.  I was amazed at how the thing changed.  Wonky stitches improved, askew cables worked themselves out, etc.

Well, I have some wonky stitches on Rogue, plus the holes where the increases are. (I gave up long ago fighting with them).  And then there’s that less than lovely seaming job on the shoulders.  I know the wonkiness and all will be greatly improved but can a wool bath and subsequent blocking help the seam to lay better?  We shall see.

Now that I’m coming toward the completion of Rogue I’m thinking about making another one.  I have learned so much just making this one that I think it would look even better if I knitted it all over again.  As if this one was a "test".  We’ll see, maybe later.  Or, the Eris (Eros… whichever it is…. the Girl from Auntie cardigan pattern) could be my "better sweater" instead of making another Rogue.  Time will tell.
