If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading Jane’s blog then you are truly missing out. She is very English… high tea….flower gardens… you’ll gain weight just reading her posts. She takes the most lovely photographs, bakes almost daily (and then tortures you with photos) and between her gardening, her cooking, her knitting and quilting I am always amazed at what she gets done in an average day. In addition to all of this, Jane is one of those women who handles things with grace and dignity. I’ve never read a rant from her, she just tries to do things proper. And then she made a pair of socks with Cherry Tree Hill Superwash.
She knit up the socks, she washed them once according to the yarn band instructions and they faded, faded horribly. Some areas lost almost all of their color. She has contacted CTH and they told her she should’ve washed them in a manner not listed on the yarnband. They’ve sent her sarcastic emails… and now the head of the company, a woman named Cheryl, is sending her nasty emails. They refuse to refund any money until she mails the socks from England, to the US to the vendor she purchased them from and then forwards that vendors comments to CTH. But… they want Jane to pay for the transatlantic postage and still won’t guarantee that they will refund the money.
Anyway, Jane posted the latest in the CTH saga this week and there has been a surge of comments, someone even made a boycott CTH button. Here it is….
I have never knitted with CTH mainly because of the price. I have, though, drooled openly after gazing at their colorways. Recently I was considering making a CTH purchased but between the fading and the nasty customer service I’m a bit leary. Anyway, in support of Jane, I posted about the CTH saga. Maybe Cheryl will begin to note the inappropriate hits that she’s getting and rethink sending hate filled emails to customers.
Hey, that’s my button! So glad to see it in use.
I don’t think the folks at CTH (or other companies I’ve heard of lately) get the concept of customer service. If Ms. Potter had just said, “that’s weird, we usually don’t get complaints…” and sent Jane some new yarn, she wouldn’t have lost several dozen customers and potential customers.
You know, the amount of bad PR is worth a whole lot less than one replacement skein of CTH…I just dont get why some vendors are just rude and evil when it takes excatly ONE MINUTE to take one’s business (and $$) elsewhere on the Net! CTH yarn isn’s so special that I can’t live without it! My one and only pair, hand washed in baby shampoo and cold water has pilled terribly and they’ve NEVER been on my feet!! No more CTH for me…give me trekking or mountain colors anyday!
Oh oh. I splurged on a skein of CTH sock yarn when I was in New Orleans last summer. I haven’t started any socks yet…wonder if I dare now. Thanks for the warning though.
