First, some blog business….
A few weeks ago I was asking how folks did that strike through font thing… ya know… like this . Anyway, the strangest thing happened. Janet commented that I could simply change to scratch writing by simply using the pull down buttons on the page where I post. And my immediate thought???? What pull down buttons? I got no pull downs, no buttons. What buttons? Typepad gives me no options. Just a big blank rectangle to type in. This, of course, played into all of my insecurity issues that there is this huge conspiracy on the planet and that everyone has stuff that is hidden from me….. and they’re all laughing about it. Anyhoo…. I decided to actually go to a posting page and click and pull on everything I could. Nuttin’! So… I headed to the help area.
Now… before this I had no idea what WYSIWYG is/was, never heard the term "rich text editing" and really didn’t even know what I was going to search on. Then someone (was it Deb?) mentioned doing a spell check on their blog entry. Again…I’m thinking conspiracy. I have been wishing I had a spellchecker… look at those past entries, people…. don’t I look like a person who needs a spell checker???? How much embarrassement could have been avoided if I only could spell check? Anyway, now I knew what to search on. I headed onto the Typepad site and I wasn’t going to stop until I could spell check.
Well, you learn something new everyday. I use a Mac. Mac… run by Steve Jobs…. and Microsoft… owned by Bill Gates…. do not get along. (The men and the software… no cooperation.) So much so that Mac users can no longer get updates of Internet Explorer. Version 5.2 is, I believe, the last one you can get. This past spring I finally had to bail on using IE because so many web pages couldn’t be viewed without the higher explorer. So, as much as I hate Mac’s browser, called Safari, I had to bite the bullet and start using it. Apparently I had other choices, which Dana, a.k.a. Hubby Tech Support, decided not to inform me of until I found the evidence on the Typepad help page. There are other browsers out there…. and they are free…. and one of them we already had. Conspiracy!
I tinkered around, and, after the bugs were worked out, I decided I like Firefox as my browser on the Mac. I also discovered that I can use the Internet Explorer on my laptop to get to the good posting page in Typepad (in contrast to the "cheap seats" posting page I’ve been getting while using Safari).
So, there were some glitches but we got it figured out and now I can write in scratch if I want to. I can spell chek…. check….. if I want to. And… another thing I never knew… you people aren’t typeing in the HTML code for each link you post. I had to do that myself with Safari. I didn’t know I was going to get a little link button… how cool is that. I don’t know HTML stuff so I had Dana make me a cheat sheet that is on the computer desktop. Each time I need something HTML-ish I had to go over there and copy and paste. I’ve been working too hard at this! Folks were holdin’ out on me. Hah… think of all the trouble I can get into now! And you thought I just didn’t know anything to link to… HAH… I was just to lazy to do the linking. Now its easy. Links, let there be links everywhere!
On to the knitting….
Here’s Rogue after the hood’s increases have been finished.
And, a bad photo job by me, but here is the new sock I’m working on… using the yarn that Kathleen sent as a giftie.
The pattern is Crooked Cable Socks written by Sockbug . So far, I love this sock pattern. It is very fun. The pattern is written for 2 circ’s but that was making me think (and… ok… maybe say) unladylike things so I got the dpn’s out. And, yep, those are the CP dpn’s that I swore I would burn. I did replace the ones causing all the trouble and I can now say after using some Ponies and the CP’s (haven’t tried my Inox and Brittany dpn’s yet) I’m starting to forgive the CP’s.
So this posting with linkage help and the ability to scratch freely has been fun. Very cool. I didn’t know what I was missin’. (I’m so easily amused.)
Off to the tubby tub.
I’m so glad you had this epiphany Kris!! Knowlegde is power, n’est ce pas?
Actually on blogger I have to do the HTML for the links (as far as I know but I am gonna explore a little more!) but I really don’t mind cause I think knowing a little HTML isn’t a bad thing.
Your Rogue is really lovely and your socks look great too, I’m glad you and the CP’s are getting along now! I love that yarn, Trekking is one of my favorites…can’t wait to see both Rogue and your socks finished!
How are things on the home selling front?
Glad you got the blog stuff sorted out! Sock and Rogue look good!
Those socks look great! Glad you were able to adapt it to DPs, I kinda feel the same way about those that you do about circs, LOL! Glad you weathered (groan) the hurricane OK, too!
