A federal judge has suspended Mark’s execution. This has nothing to do with his guilt or innoncence. It is over a challenge to the medication cocktail that 37 states use for carrying out their lethal injections. The supreme court is set to hear a case in 2008 to determine if the use of this cocktail is cruel and unusual punishment. A Mississippi man had his execution halted last week and cannot be rescheduled until the supreme court hears the challenge in 2008.
While I haven’t heard any details as to why (I just heard a blurb on the news) the execution was halted, I imagine it was for the same reason. Florida is one of 37 states using that same cocktail.
I’m not happy about this change, I’m not unhappy about this change. I was prepared for tomorrow night. When the time comes for his sentence to be carried out, I’ll prepare again. But, as I said before, I don’t know the man that I see on the news. But everytime I see him (he looks just like he did 20 years ago) I just see the face of the boy I knew. The boy who was my friend. Before his life went down an awful, awful path.
