WordPress, Moveable Type and Moving On

I think about moving away from Typepad usually around the spring of the year.  You know…. right when my Typepad account is up for renewal.  Well this year I actually started thinking about it early.  This is probably because my BFF started her own blog (I’ll link to her one day but I don’t think she’s ready for me to do that yet) and she jumped right in with WordPress.

I think moving to the big guys scared me so to see that it is not impossible to figure out now has me intrigued. In all honesty, one of my biggest reasons for wanting to move is to have more options regarding what my blog looks like.  Yea… I could buy a blogskin.  But then I’d own a blogskin and still have the same looking blog.  Why?  I don’t know how to install above mentioned blog skin onto my blog.

I see options that I would have with WordPress.  I haven’t dug around as much with MoveAble Type.    What do y’all think?  I’m a pretty small fish for moving away form Typepad but I do already own my domain name (did that during the Typepad vs. Earthlink "we ain’t sendin’ you you’re stinkin’ comments" war of 2006.) So I do have the basics.  I just need to make a suicidal jump take a leap and pick a platform.

I think I’m scared to screw up.

Maybe I’m overthinking this too.

(Wanna know something funny?  The BFF…. as soon as I say something like "do you think I’m overthinking this" she will blurt out "yes" before I even get the words out of my mouth…. like a knee jerk reaction.  Guess she knows me too well.)

So?  Am I?  Ya know…. overthinking this?

  1. Yes, you’re overthinking this. 😉

I too am on Typepad. (I haven’t registered a domain name, yet.) I too am thinking about WordPress (for the same reasons.)

However, I have one other factor: the GeekinMyLife (GIMF) had this to say: “WordPress support for beer.” Sold.

Good luck! (Mine won’t happen till autumn, sometime. Life is in the way before that.)
