Many of you may have noticed my little blue fingered mishap while I tinkered around with some Easter Egg dyes and yarn.
Well, I learned a few things.
1. If you don’t want to go through life with the Blue Fingered Plague, wear gloves. Who cares if it’s not toxic! You look like a goofball….wear gloves.
2. Not all Easter Egg dyes are good Easter Egg dyes. Ours did not fully disolve but since the water was so dark we didn’t know this. Thus, some of our yarn was resting on a dye tab all night long.
3. When yarn rests on a dye tab all night long you will never, ever, ever, ever, ever get it to stop bleeding color. Just sayin’.
4. I hate using Easter Egg dyes.
5. It was time to move to bigger and better things. Grown up things. And so I did.
Now… none of this is perfect by any means. We’re still learning and such. But, I do get my dye baths to exhaust, my colors don’t bleed and I learned how to re-skein (man…. that’s not a happy job!).
So here ya go….my foray into the world of dyeing. It was fun. It was messy. But I think I’ll be visiting again soon.
100 % merino
100% merino
100% alpaca
100% merino
100% merino (These were handpainted. All the others were variations of the pouring method).
When I was a kid I loved to spend time with my great grandmother. She lived part of the time with my grandmother and part of the time with my aunt. One thing that I remember fondly is how she raised African Violets. She is/was the only person I ever knew that could get them to not only rebloom but to thrive and grow. She always knew just the right amount of light and the right amount of water and the right amount of this and the right amount of that.
Anyway, when I saw these 2 skeins I immediately thought of Grandma Jordan and her African violets.
Good times. Good times.
Well, that’s my little color experiment. My whole house smells like cooked vinegar. It will fade eventually. Unless, that is, I keep dyeing up more color combos.
heh heh heh
Glad AG enjoyed the 4th. I loved her birthday pony story. Poor thing. Dying looks pretty good to me.
Real cool! I haven’t heard of dying with easter egg dye….I’ve used Kool Aid, though…
It’s all very pretty! I’m impressed
