We spent Saturday searching for different waterfalls along Snoqualmie pass and the south fork of the Snoqualmie River. The weather was so nice, and it was so sunny (!) that we couldn’t waste such a great opportunity to do some site seeing.
I put together a little montage of our discoveries.
Here are some waterfalls that are seen from the parking lot of the Alpental Ski resort (note the Saturday Sky).
Cave Ridge Falls
Alpental Falls
(Alpental Falls is an unofficial name but it is what the falls are commonly known by. Named such because they are seen from the ski resort).
Moving away from the ski resort…..
Fall-Into-The-Wall Falls:
Named by kayakers because when you kayak over the falls (thus proving you are a big, fat idiot) it looks like you will go right into the wall (assuming you live to tell about it).
Franklin Falls:
This is the waterfall AG and I tried to get to a little over a month ago. When we got there yesterday I realized I could not have managed AG by myself at this waterfall. The hike is fine until the very end where you walk along these rocks (wet rocks…slippery rocks….jagged rocks….you get the idea) and try to cross the river. In the middle of the river is a little island of rocks (perfect for rock throwing). This whole area is slippery.
When traveling to Franklin Falls one thing remains true. No matter how close you get or don’t get, you will get wet.
Dana took Anna Grace over to the little rock island and she had a ball. Since I have a tendency to break my neck under the best of circumstances, I stayed in my secure little spot over on the slippery rocks. I had found a place where I could keep my footing and I refused to move.
Anna Grace had so much fun here that she cried and cried when we finally made her leave. Her and Dana were soaked.
Weeks Falls:
Located inside Ollalie State Park.
Dingford Creek Falls:
This waterfall took us forever to get to while traveling along dirt and gravel roads and dodging a bazillion potholes. We almost turned back. But we pressed on only to be met with a road closed sign (and a gate) at the very end just before we reached our destination. After coming that far, we proceeded on foot. I worried that this waterfall wasn’t going to be worth all the trouble but it turned out to be a beauty.
The description we had said that during snowmelt this waterfall gets so powerful that the bridge shakes. I can attest that this is true. This thing was raging!
How’d we find out about all of these? Well, I knew about Franklin Falls but we used this website for the others. We’ve used that website over and over since we’ve been here.
At the end of our journey we were all tired, the car was covered in dirt and AG was covered in mud from jumping into every single mud puddle that she found. We had a great time.
