Knitting? What Knitting?
OK, there has been some knitting. I have been working on a Baby Surprise thing that I thought I’d do for Dulaan. I’m stuck. So, I shoved it back in the bag and I feel quite certain that if I wait a few days and then read the instructions again I will miraculously by "unstuck".
Moving on…..
We went to see Mount St. Helen’s last weekend. I would say that we went to Mount St. Helen’s but due to a little glitch that isn’t exactly true.
Here’s some photos….
See the crater???
The desert looking area is the destruction that was from the blast. This photo was taken in the blast zone. We were there on the 19th (the 27th anniversary was the 18th) and almost 30 years has passed. In some ways, however, it looks like the area is just starting to recover. Other areas still just speak of the destruction.
Castle Lake viewpoint.
OK, so we went to the visitor’s center that is right by the interstate. We drove up toward the mountain and then we stopped here and took a photo. Beyond here is another lookout and the Johnson Observatory. We didn’t go there. Why? Because as Dana pulled into the Castle Lake turnout he realized that we were almost out of gas. We had passed the "last gas and food stop" several miles back. So we turned around and that was that.
Yes, there was a discussion about that. Dana is feeling a bit sheepish. If he had a nice wife she would’ve just let it pass without a word. But…. Dana does not, in fact, have a nice wife. He has a wife that, at times, just won’t let it die.
It’s just one more service I provide to the universe. Hassle!
This weekend? We won’t be traveling the whole time because we need to be back on Sunday morning. So we’re just staying overnight on Friday. Where are we going? Going to the Columbia River Gorge (with a little side trip to see Mt. Adams). I’m so excited.
Dana swears that "gas" will not be an issue again.
HA!
First date with my husband we went to dinner and then we were going to a beach. On the way to the beach we drive past a gas station and he looks over and says “I probably should have stopped there” I look over and the gas light is on. We kept driving took the next exit and then drove around trying to find a gas station. We ended up having to go back. We drove 33 Miles w/ the gas light on. The whole time I was thinking.. um I am going to end up at the side of the road being killed by this guy (remember first date) it was crazy. BTW I never let him forget it either.
We were living here then and actually heard the “boom” when it went off. The devastation was incredible. But it’s also incredible how much it’s come back. If you get another chance to go to the visitor’s center before you leave, fill up on gas and go – it’s well worth the trip!
Wow, a real volcano! VERY COOL!
PS – I fear Florida is going to be quite the letdown, heh!
