I started a scarf last night using this….
I wound it up and cast on for a nice fluffy scarf. The colors aren’t working out anything like I thought they would and quite honestly the knitting is looking like one of those old lady afghans. I think the colors look awful. But when I bought the yarn (and before I wound it) I loved the colors. Maybe it’s the lighting, maybe it’s the way the colors play off of one another, maybe I’ve lost my knitting mojo.
I had what I thought was a brainstorm, turns out it was just a stupid idea. The colorway is called Panzanite. So I thought… tanzanite, malchite, whatever-ite, etc etc etc. Maybe this colorway was named for a gemstone that I’m just not familiar with. So I looked up Panzanite to see if there was any info out there on it. Thought I’d see what it looked like, see if I like the stone, blah blah blah. Any luck? Nope. When you search on Panzanite the only hits are in regards to Blue Moon Fiber Arts products.
This isn’t the first time I’ve been shocked by how a yarn turned out. I was honestly very surprised at how my Farmhouse STR knit up. I liked it but it just wasn’t what I expected. I think a big issue here is that I cannot look at a hand-dyed yarn where the colors are all grouped together and then imagine what it will look like when it is knit up. My brain doesn’t work like that. I have the same issue with multi-colored dyed roving. I’m always surprised by what it looks like when it is spun.
In other Mojo-less knitting news, I’m just not inspired to cast on a new project. Or stitch up a finished on (i.e. Eris). I think I’m in a knitting funk. I think I just need to cast on a project and get to work (or… here’s a thought… finish Eris!!!) and knit until the funk goes away.
i did the same thing w/ malabrigo yarn in a yellow and brown scheme. look so good in the skein and knit up looks awful. and i bought a lot……………expensive lesson learned.
