Fibery Goodness

Many purchases were made at the festival yesterday.  It also occurred to me that I never showed you the mohair that I purchased at the Puyallup fair.  Let’s get started, shall we?

Behold!  Cashmere and baby camel.  The cashmere is cashmere down.  I wanted to try some new fibers.  Take some risks.  Yeah… I know they won’t turn out great since I’m pretty new to this spinning thing but I figure I won’t learn unless I try.

This is Alpaca top.  Now I have a question.  The lady I bought this from acted like she needed to make sure I understood that this was "top".  Is there a reason that top is better or worse than something else?  I often see "wool top" on sale on ebay.  What does is mean when it says "top"?  Does that mean that it is a lesser fiber?

I’m so smitten with this I could just faint.  Merino and Tussah Silk blend 50/50.  I started spinning it today.  It is a challenge for me as evidenced by the little overspun nob thingies I’m getting (and possibly evidenced by the occasional outburst of inappropriate language).  It does get away from me a bit but can I just say….. smooth like buttah!  Yeah, baby this stuff is amazing.  I lovelovelove the colors.

Here’s an action shot….

Laci (100% merino) in the colorway Love-in-Idleness.  I’m having visions of shawls!  And for you yarn sniffers out there…. this one smells magnificent!

I got some more bobbins for the WooLee Winder and a skein of STR in the colorway Puck’s Mischief.  These purples and greens together are making me slap happy.

And here’s the Mohair that I bought a few weeks back.

Today I finished up  half of the corriedale roving that I purchased from Sandy’s Palette.  I’ve got a huge area in the middle that is just yellow.  I have now learned to divide up my roving a little differently and pay more attention to such things.  Anyway, here’s one of the skeins I finished up today.  It is a 2 ply.  Still learning…. as you can see….

Little Miss and I had a nice day.  We went to church this morning and just hung around the house the rest of the day but we had fun.  The neighbors had family over for a birthday celebration.  One of those family members brought their dog.  While they were having dinner this dog came over and brought his ball to Anna Grace.  She was thrilled but didn’t know what to do.  So I sat down and tossed the ball back and forth while AG laughed hysterically saying "Hi Dog" over and over.  If all dogs were like this one I’d get one.  But it’d be just my luck I’d get one of the ones that had a "shallow gene pool" if you know what I mean.

Well, must go. The Toddler awaits.

  1. great yarn… looks like you’re catchin’ on to the spinning thing.

It was great running into you at OFFF. Wish you could have made it to the spinning circle.
