Okay…. so I may have toured a few yarn shops on vacation. And I may have followed that up with a mini yarn crawl on Sunday. So what’s your point?
Wanna see the goods?
Our first contestant is…. Periwinkle. A lovely handpainted wool from Blue Moon Fiber Arts in the colorway Panzanite. Periwinkle’s hobbies are….. sorry. Couldn’t help myself.
I have no big exotic plans for this other than making myself a big wooly booley (bully?) scarf. My friend Karen from the knitting group informed me upon my arrival in Washington that often you can be plenty warm with a light jacket as long as you have a warm scarf around your neck. I intend to use this yarn and a snazzy denim jacket to test that theory. I’ll be wet (this is the Seattle area afterall) but hopefully I’ll be cute and warm.
Next up…. sock yarn!
One skein of trekking color #77 (I hate when companies do that. Name a color by a number. No originality!). And the other skein is the awesome Socks that Rock in the colorway of Farmhouse. I’m dying to break into that STR!
Although my lace project for the Amazing Lace has been a complete disaster (no, its not finished. No, I still don’t want to talk about it!). Still, when I saw this I could not help myself. This is Egyptian Merc. Cotton from Blue Heron Yarns in the colorway Dusk. I will make something lacy with this. I will not mess it up. It may be the last thing I do on this planet but as God as my witness (sorry…. having a Scarlet O Hara moment. It’ll pass in just a minute.)
Here’s my brand spankin’ new and freshly autographed Yarn Harlot book along with the makings for a cool felted bag. The pattern calls for two strands of worsted weight yarn but they had a sample in the shop of a bag made with one strand of Cascade and one strand of Flora novelty yarn (I can’t believe I bought novelty yarn. I am not a novelty yarn kinda girl!) from Trendsetter Yarns. It looked so cool I just had to make one. I got a really cool button for it as well. This might actually be a Christmas gift for someone.
This is Cascade Luna that will be used right quick like for a baby gift. Notice that the colors look very Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit-ish.
Finally, before I left on vacation I ordered some roving from Sandy’s Palette . I don’t remember the name of the colorway but the fiber is Corriedale. Anyway I started spinning some of it this week. I still like the colors but so far it is showing up much more yellow than I would’ve imagined.
I thought I’d end up with lots of blue and hints of yellow. I still am such a bad judge as to how these different dyed wools will look once spun.
Well, we decided to not head over to Tacoma tonight and to hang around the house instead. Little Miss did so well in speech therapy today that her speech therapist was a bit…. speechless. So, maybe she hasn’t regressed since our vacation. Maybe I’m just too focused on things.
I’m hoping we have a better night tonight. Little Miss didn’t sleep much of last night (her own personal my-dad-is-out-of-town torture tactic) so needles to say I got a even less sleep than she did. What fun. And… as a bonus…. I got to listen to Elmo discuss how to use the potty at three a.m. Boy Howdy that was a blast…. NOT! I’m hopeful that she will sleep better tonight.
Great haul, I love every contestant…especially that Blue Heron! You know I’m the original knit lace with cotton gal so I’m recommending the Diamond Fantasy Shawl…pretty easy and intuitive and great for a new-ish lace knitter! And it looks GREAT in cotton…check my side bar for a pic of one I made for Mom! And come visit the blog why dontcha?
Oh, yeah, the dad-is-out-of-town blues. I remember it well. The kiddos are old enough (read busy enough) to not mind so much anymore — now it’s just Walter (the yellow lab) who pouts. I’ve got some Blue Heron, too. Can’t decide which lace it wants to be, yet. Saw the Harlot last night in Portland — a rockin’ good time. Here’s hoping for a better night’s sleep tonight, for everone.
The same Trekking found its way to my stash recently (and some STR)…can’t wait to use either one.
Sometimes we need to have another person see the changes in our child before we are sure about them ourselves. I notice it the most with my middle dd…her grandmother will remark how her writing is improving and then I really know she is onto something. AG is going to do just fine…she is too ornery to do anything else! ;o)
Hmmm – some of that looks familiar, but I think you did some enhancing before (or after?) our trip. Love STR, love Blue Heron, love Trekking. You done good!
I am soooo envious of the new additons of your stash!!!!! i cant wait to see some of your finished projects up here!!!!
