Alpaca Farm

There were several places on the tulip tour that weren’t tulip farms.  Two of these were Alpaca farms.  One of them turned out to be closed but  Alpacas of Misty Ridge were not only open but they had a great set up.  It was raining quite a bit when we got there and you could see alpaca resting out in the fields.  I thought we’d have to go out in the rain to see them.  Not so.  They have a barn with half antiques and half alpaca.  So we were able to stay dry and make new friends.

Here are some alpaca that were hanging out together in a large stall.

They were pretty friendly and Anna Grace got a kick out  of them.

Here are some that were in a big stall across the walkway

We went over where the antiques were being sold and in the back of that area were more alpaca.  They were divided into two groups: nursing moms and babies and expectant moms.  (Because the light was so low these photos are really not great at all. )

Here’s a baby that’s just about a week or so old.

One of the expectant momma alpaca was in labor when we arrived.  We were able to wait while she had a baby alpaca.  It was so cool.   I was amazed at how calm the alpaca mom was.  She made not a sound and just stayed peaceful and quiet.  She did hum a bit (the folks who run the place say they do that sometimes) but that was it.

Here’s mom-to-be:

This next picture is quite blurry but its the brand-spankin’-new-baby-boy alpaca.

According to the folks that work there, mom and baby are just fine.  What a cool alpaca farm visit!

After we left the farm we headed back home to Enumclaw.  Seems we’ve arrived here just in time for a mighty big windstorm.  Oh well.  Such is life.

  1. I LOVE the tulips, they are such pretty colours. The alpacas are cute and it’s great you were there just at the moment of the baby alpaca being born. Did they sell any of the alpaca fleece or wool there?

  2. You went to high school with Carrot Top?! I HATE that guy and his stupid long distance commercials! But I’ll bet he was probably really shy and quiet, wasn’t he?
