Funny Looking Horse

We were driving back toward Friday Harbor and Dana said "Is that a horse"?  I glance up, saw two animals in a pasture.  One was a horse, one I couldn’t see well but was horse-like size.  As we got closer I realized that was one odd looking horse.  At about the same time we both proclaime "Is that a camel"?

Yep!

Dana parked in the driveway of the San Juan Vineyard while I got out to visit the camel.  I have always liked camels.  At Silver Springs in Ocala, Florida they used to have a camel that you could feed.  That was when I was hooked.  I fed the guy, he bit my shoulder, it was love.   I couldn’t lift my arm for a day or two but that’s beside the point.  Ever since then when we go to a zoo or anything I’m always hoping they let you get close to the camels.

Well, this guy was a bit aggressive.  I walked toward him, he starts coming toward me….quickly…. I actually wondered if he was going to spit.  He puffed and snorted a bit and he would’ve probably eaten my camera if I had gotten too much closer to the fence.

Alpaca and camel in one day.  Woo Hoo!

Now… can somebody tell me why there’s a camel on San Juan Island?

  1. I think the camel was originally with a circus (I think- I’m not sure. For some reason that sticks in my mind.) Now it’s a pet, and one of the landmarks Emma must look for every time we drive up that way.
