I may have lost my mind a few weeks back when I signed up for the knitting olympics. I think that is why when I saw this on Leona’s site it just hit home.
Well, I just moved across the country, my furniture and such just arrived and my brain is not functioning as it should, so……
I am hereby withdrawing from the knitting olympics. My lace catastrophe attempt will be hidden from public view. After working on it as much as I was able these past day or two I am just 3 rows into the first repeat…. with a total of 14 repeats needed…and the mistakes are breeding like rabbits. In other words, I don’t have a snowball’s chance of finishing this and I am going back to knitting the things I was working on before the insanity the flame was lit.
Due to my total brain cramping I almost titled this post "I’m the Michelle Kwan of the Knitting Olympics" because I entered at less than my best (stressed, brainless, insane) and my lack of total focus is resulting in me backing out. But…. (in addition to not wanting to be disrespectful of Michelle Kwan) I am no Michelle Kwan. Let’s look at the stats, shall we????
Michelle Kwan actually knows what she’s doing. Me? I’m still wingin’ it with this knitting thing.
Michelle Kwan is known for being graceful. Me? Not so much.
Michelle Kwan is physically fit, active. Me? I try to avoid such things.
Michelle Kwan is Ameriasian, gorgeous. Me? White bread mayonaise and rather wall flowerish.
But…. back to my point. I’m removing myself from knitting olympics competition so Team Lace needs a replacement knitter.
It’s a wise person who knows her limits. Me, I knew them at the outset and didn’t even try, so you do get points for bravery! I heard you got to meet Lorette (the Knitting Doctor). I met her last year and I’m so jealous that all of you great knitters were there without me! I’ll have to keep my eyes and ears open for the next big get-together.
Hi!
I found your site through the knitting blogs ring.
Are you definitely sure you don’t want to compete? I ask because…on my blog I recently posted an idea for a “team alternates” – basically – for folks who didn’t sign up, but it turns out they are available after all. I could be your alternate, perhaps? I just recently started a lacy stole and it could possibly be my project. If you are interested – let me know – we could then send an email to the Yarn Harlot so she would know of the substitution.
