Cheese Grits

Putting aside all the redneck jokes about Yankees northeners (sp?) and grits…. I can’t find any up here.

I didn’t expect to see them on a breakfast menu but the kiddo likes instant cheese grits for breakfast.  She also has a fondness for instant oatmeat.  But every now and then she boycotts the oatmeal and that’s when the cheese grits are a certain hit.  I figured if they sell cream of wheat (ick) in the south, surely I can get a box of instant grits up here.  Two grocery stores and one Target searched without success.

I either need to search a bigger grocery store or somebody’s grandmother is going to need to ship her a supply of instant cheese grits.

  1. Quaker makes the instant cheese grits. If you need grits, just let me know and I will head right down the street to Food Lion. You can not live without grits. Now I am wanting shrimp and grits for dinner. I think I need to head to the store for the shrimp.

  2. Have you tried the Gates of Hell yet? I mean, have you tried Walmart…a Super Walmart with the grocery side? As much as I hate them, they do carry a lot of stuff our other groceries don’t AND they are based in the south, right?

Do you make your own instant oatmeal? I’ve got a recipe with a dozen or more variations on it I can send you. Much cheaper (hear that, Dana?LOL) than the boxed and very easy.

  3. I live in Bothell and my local Safeway has them. They are near the cream of wheat etc. I’m assuming the Bonney Lake one will have them too. If not, Trader Joe’s *might* be another option. I too love my grits! So good!

  4. My kids were raised in Washington and they love grits! I found the instant kind at my local Safeway, but am not so sure about cheese grits. Hope you can find them!

  5. As an addendum to my previous comment – I was at the store today and lo and behold – instant cheese grits! Unfortunately it was at the local Navy base commissary, so I can’t refer you to one in your area, but at least you know they’re available in Washington.

  6. Hi! I’m a new reader who lives in your (new) neck of the woods and I surely hope you find your grits. I would agree with the person who suggested looking at Trader Joe’s or at a specialty grocery store if you have something like that in your neighborhood. Good luck!!

  7. I have ny hubby working on it :-) He is the manager of a Safeway. He has to look up the order code, then all you have to do is ask your Safeway to carry them. If you have the order code they should be able to get them for you within 2 days!
