Hello from Washington

We have arrived safe and sound and are staying in our new house.  Originally we intended to stay in Dana’s hell hole apartment but upon further consideration…. I flat out refused. It’s small.  It’s tiny.  It hasn’t been cleaned since he moved in the joint.  Yep, that guy was totally enjoying the bachelor life.  So we grabbed some things, picked up the keys and headed to Enumclaw.

I do like the house, I’m getting used to it.  It looks a bit different than I had imagined and it is plotted out a bit differently that I thought it was.  So, basically, I am disoriented a bit.

I did get  a nice surprise this morning.  Two actually.  First, the sun was out here in Enumclaw for about 3 hours.  Second, I discovered that this house has a mountain view from the living room and family room.  It wasn’t on the listing for the house and Dana said that the mountain wasn’t out (mountain = Mount Rainier) any time he was here so he didn’t notice.  On a fluke I just decided to see if I could see any part of the mountain from the front window.  Well… I can see the whole thing.  Way cool.

Residents of Washington may consider kicking me out because their state has had some bad luck since I arrived.

First:  an earthquake.  There was a small earthquake just above Seattle about two hours after our arrival.

Second: Weather wonks are saying that  the "worst storm" in half a century is en route to this area tonight.  Now… storm to me = thunder, lightening, torrential rain, some wind etc.   Storm to Washington…. don’t know.  The weather guy used the term "hurricane force winds" and my first thought????  That joker’s been workin’ in Florida!!!  I guess Washington weather wonks enjoy sounding the alarms (false or otherwise) just as much as Florida’s do.  But, at least the guys up here seem to have enough sense to stay out of the rain!

So… Kris arrives and you have an earthquake and a wind storm that was described using the word hurricane.  Yep, they’re gonna kick me out.

Today we went to Tukwila (a.k.a.  Land of Retail).   You can basically do all of your shopping in one or two city blocks.  There’s a mall, book stores, linen stores, baby stores, furniture stores, AN IKEA….. WOO HOO (yes, this was my first Ikea experience), basically any retail chain you can think of appears to be in Tukwila.  (I may be spelling that wrong but spelling doesn’t count for at least 90 days… its in the state constitution.)

And finally, it hasn’t really sunk in that I’ve moved.  The regular events of life don’t fade so quickly.  Each night in Oakland, about 9 ish I’d here the same sound over and over again, night after night.  It was so regular that I often didn’t even notice it anymore.  Well, tonight I looked at Dana and said "there goes Disney’s fireworks", a sound very similar to thunder in the distance.  Then I realized, NOPE…. not disney fireworks, it really is thunder in the distance!

There has been knitting but I have not much.  I’ll prove it later.

Toodles!

  1. Glad you arrived safely! How funny, you took Florida weather with you!

Enjoy your new adventure Kris, and give Dana and AG a Florida hug from me!! And one for you too!!

  2. Congrats on getting there! Very cool that you can see Mt. Ranier from your house. And, oh, yaeh, thanks for the hurricane you brought. Shaun and Emma and I are trying to head out to Oregon this weekend, and the winds are so bad, that it’s still up in the air whether the ferry will be able to run!

  3. As you probably know by now, storm in Washington = wind! Up here on Whidbey Island we’re getting 50-60 mph winds, but no damage yet and our power is still on. But we really don’t blame you. Glad you made it safely. Welcome and once you get settle in we’ll starting pointing you to all the good yarn shops.
