It is official: I have injured my ankle via running. I ran around Lake Gertrude yesterday and the ankle felt odd. Can’t explain it, just odd. Odd turned to ouch and today I’m a tad gimpy.
Earlier this week I began to wonder if Bridge to 10K was pushing me forward too quickly. The jumps in running time/mileage seemed too large from week to week. But, what do I know, I’m new at this. However, my run on Tuesday left me exhausted for days. While other runs tired me out, I felt mentally energized the following days regardless of the fact that I couldn’t have physically run a step if you had paid me. Not this time. Tuesday’s run left me mentally and physically sapped for days. Then on Saturday, for the first time, I had to stop and walk during the middle of a run. And then there was the ankle tweaking me.
So, I am giving up Bridge to 10k. I think I’ll try something a bit more gentle, something more along the lines of One Hour Run. Basically, I’m going to use my GPS app to run 25 – 35 minute runs throughout the week and then gradually build up on Saturdays as a long run. But… none of that will be happening until Mr. Ankle decides to stop complaining.
All in all, I think much of this comes down to one very important fact. I’m not as young as I used to be.
And lets just leave it at that.
I used to walk around Lake Gertrude. What a gorgeous area!! However I do recall lots of uneven parts to the sidewalk so having an injured ankle isn’t all that surprising.
Hope your ankle improves soon!
