Three Great Years

We have enjoyed three great years running and operating Sonny and Shear.  We are proud of the business we built and established.  However, over the past year we have had to take a long hard look at the yarn shop and we have had to answer some difficult questions.

-Will the shop be able to recover from the economic downturn?

-Is there a way to help the shop thrive, not simply survive, without taking on debt, taking an   unwise gamble, etc.?

-As it takes more and more time to promote the shop, with not as much in return, would that time be better spent with Anna Grace and the baby?

Last fall Dana and I realized what needed to be done.  Dana had known for a while but I wanted to give things more time, more effort, more stubbornness.  But there came a day when everything became completely clear and I knew, without a doubt, that the shop needed to close.

I am at peace with the decision and we began planning several months ago for the gradual closing of Sonny &  Shear.  While I am sad that the shop didn’t succeed in the long term, I am thrilled that I had the opportunity to open the shop, promote it and get to meet all of you.  I have been truly blessed through my experiences with Sonny & Shear.

Sonny & Shear will close its virtual doors on March 29, 2010.  I will continue to keep the blog going as the blog preceeded the shop.  In addition, I am sure I will “see” many of you around on Ravelry.

Thank you so much for three fabulous years.  We really appreciate each and every one of you.

And now for the going out of business sale……

Sonny & Shear is  having a going out of business sale from now until March 29, 2010.  Save 50% off of all items in the inventory by using the code ThreeGreatYears at the time of check out.

Our free shipping program is suspended throughout the duration of the going out of business sale.

If you have a gift certificate, you are still able to use it during this sale.  Gift certificates are same as cash so they remain valid for as long as the shop remains open.

Happy shopping!!

  1. Oh my goodness! I am sad to hear of this, but completely understand. S&S was one of my favorite shops ever.

And I am going to suspend my year+ “knit from the stash” decree and head on over to the site :)

  2. Kris – I am so sorry to hear this. I know how much you have enjoyed the shop, but I completely understand, especially with the baby coming. So glad you’re going to keep the blog going. I love keeping up with your life and especially AG’s little snippets of wisdom!

  3. I am so sorry that it’s come to this, but do entirely understand. Your family has to come first and they deserve more of your time. I’m going to miss S&S, but will still see you around.

    xo

  4. So sorry to hear this news. I just closed my online shop as well, after 5 years. Best of luck with the sale and your future endeavors. I didn’t realize we have another thing in common: a child with dyspraxia.

  5. Sad. I’m sorry you had to make that decision, but I completely understand it. Only so much you can sacrifice. I’m happy that you are keeping the blog because I love reading it!

  6. What a shock to read! I’m very sorry to see you go, but as the other posters have said, I certainly do understand. My own polymer clay business closed over three years ago, and it was never a mistake to have had the guts to make that decision.

We all loved your shop and will be sorry to have one less reliable, dependable, honest, and well-stocked shop on the web. But you’re doing the right thing for you and your family, so it’s the right choice.
