Do What I Say???

Yesterday I had to get a sonogram.  The OB said I was “measuring small”, she freaked a tad and a sonogram was scheduled.  (I measured small with AG too… I wasn’t worried but … nobody listens to me!  I’m just the incubator….but I’m not bitter!!!!!).  Anyway, I get the sonogram only to find out that the baby is now measuring big.  In other words… we’re doing the Three Bears version of a pregnancy:  this baby is tooooo small, this baby is tooooo big.  I’ll bet if they’d leave me and this baby alone this baby would turn out juuuuuust right.  But I digress.

I have been trying not to over use babysitters etc during this pregnancy and the in laws are not always available sooooo… Anna Grace went with me.  She’s been at other sonograms but her dad was there too.  It didn’t take Lil’ Miss long to figure out that I was somewhat powerless to “snatch her up” if she got out of line and guess who started in with the questions and observations.

First she wouldn’t stay in her chair.  She had her own screen to look at but then wanted to see mine.  Rinse and repeat.  Then she had questions:

Is that the baby?

Is that his butt?

What’s he doing?

Why’s he just laying there?

Does he have toys in there?

Where’d he go?

Anna Grace then realized that the sonographer and the sonogram wand were kind of in control of the situation and she looked right at the lady and said “can you tell him that when he gets out of there he’s supposed to do what I say?”

At which point all professionalism went out the window because the sonographer could not stop laughing.

Such is life with Anna Grace.

  1. It amazes me how people automatically assume you become clueless when you are pregnant. Nobody listens. What do YOU know. Like you said, you’re just the incubator!!! LOL Too big, too small. Feh. MAYBE you measure small because that is how you carry. It makes me nuts how the medical field jumps to conclusions when you don’t fit neatly in a little box…..
Glad you had fun at the art festival. We never did make it. Was it really crowded?
And love your shawl. Something to wear when you are over the cuckoo’s nest!!! ROTFL!

  2. Soooooooooooooooooo Funny! I LOVE it! Try not to stress. My cousin had a baby that was measured way too big and he turned out just fine.

  3. HA! I am glad that Anna Grace knows her place as a big sister. We really are just put here to boss little brothers around. Unless, of course, you are the little sister–then you are there to boss EVERYONE around (at least Emily thinks so!)

Glad everything is still going great Kris! :)

  4. Kris,
Just a heads up. I measured small with my three kids, but they had to induce me with the third one.
For the first, I measured small, but he had just dropped.
For the second, I measured small, and they kept sending me for u/s (4?). We were okay. This was in Orlando.
For the third, I measured small, and the u/s finally picked up decreased amniotic fluid. Maternal age of 33, I think, which raises those risks. They induced me 8 days early, which disappointed me, but, in retrospect, doesn’t matter one whit.
I know your a nurse and all, but just wanted to put that bug in your ear in case they keep forcing you to be scanned.
On the upside, you get to REALLY hear what AG is planning!
