I had a chat with the speech therapist today about where AG is falling on her new assessment. She is being re-assessed because it’s almost time for the six-month review with the part C program. Anyway, when she was first assessed the result stated that she was "1.5 to 2 standard deviations below the mean" or A.K.A. moderate speech delay. She has been doing so well and I think I got my hopes up…. her scores are the same. She’s gotten older and she has progressed a lot. If she hadn’t, the gap would’ve increased. But, I was hoping that she was closing that gap.
I keep reminding myself that AG does have good problem solving skills, her developmental evaluations never showed any cognitive delays, just speech and fine motor. But…. speech therapists etc. always harp on the fact that cognitive delays must be present if there are speech delays.
I was trying to look at the positive side of this. Here in the next year or so, AG’s peers will slow down in their developmental milestones. AG seems to be lagging about 4 or so months behind. So… during that time she can catch up with her peers. That’s my spin on this today. So far… it’s workin’ for me.
Here’s some photos I took of Anna Grace today. Her nose is running like crazy but it hasn’t slowed her down a bit.
F.Y.I. the shirt Anna Grace has on… it says Let it Snow! Yep… I never give up.
