When I was growing up, if you locked someone (i.e. a parent) out of your room when you were having a fit or you slammed your bedroom door in anger…. you lost the door. In other words, the door was taken off the hinges.
Guess which 5 year old is learning about this time honored tradition?
Oooo as a mom to 2 five year olds, I might have to give this one a whorl. How long did the door loss last?
Wow…that’s intense. We never took a door down…but we sure did our fair share of spankings in response to door slammings!! So glad those days are over…now we just take away cars and things like that!!
I think that’s a good tradition. Hope it is effective on a certain chocolate bunny consumer.
Awesome
wow.. that is intense.. Effective.. i think that if my parents would have done that.. it would have worked the first time.. oh and i deserved every last one of those spankings my mother is refering to
ooooh good idea.
my little miss doesn’t slam often…but I think that just might work.
how long do you take the door away for?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Been there done that with my very independent now 14yo.
Haven’t had to do it with any of the other, at least not yet.
Hang in there, this too shall pass – at least I hope so, I’m still waiting!
Good tradition. Haven’t had to do it yet, but of course my kids haven’t reached the pre-teen years yet.
Ohhhhhh, I LIKE that. I think we will be missing some doors really soon. That ought to put an end to the door locking!
As my folks used to say: “A door is a priviledge, not a right.” Good on you, Kris, and hang in there.
Wow. I have a 10, 6 and 4 year old.
This hasn’t happened yet (the circumstance), but it just may make this trial interesting!
thank you!
