Smart or Not So Smart

On Sunday night I had what I thought was a brilliant idea.  I’m not an anti-candy, anti-sweets person but we have had a ton of junk in this house since Christmas.  Between the holidays and Valentines Day and then the birthdays well… I thought we’d had enough.  And Little Miss has been “cheating” on her food intolerances more than she has been avoiding them.  This is taking a bit of a toll.

Therefore, when it came time to make an Easter basket, I decided to fill it with toys and such instead of candy. I did get her one big chocolate bunny since she had been asking for that for about three months.  But besides that, I bought her a new bathing suit, a polly pocket set and little toy for playing outside in the sprinkler, etc.  I figured I won’t be able to get away with this next year but I’d go for it this year.

The next phase of this plan came when I decided that instead of eating a little bit of candy and such every day for weeks, lets just get it over with.  So Sunday night I told her she could eat her chocolate bunny and any other candy she got at the Easter egg hunts, etc.   Just eat it all, every last bit of it.

And she did.  And I was feeling pretty smart, and smug, and proud of myself.  I had all the candy out of the house.  We’d have to pay the price for an hour or so and it would be over with… I am the smartest mother in the entire world.

Chocolate Bunny Aftermath

And then a certain child who shall remain nameless was wide awake at 11:30 at night and suddenly, I didn’t feel all that smart anymore.

  1. I think it was smart, that’s because that’s exactly what I do. Just let them eat it all in one day and then you don’t have to deal with it anymore.
I have an award for you over on my blog!
