Again

It was such a nice day that we knew we we needed to get outside and enjoy the cooler weather.  So… we went letterboxing again.  This time Dana came along and we had much better luck.  Out of 5 attempts there was only one that we didn’t find and… we found our first hitchhiker.  I was very excited about that.

A beautiful day for letterboxing.

This is the box from the antique train that we couldn’t find yesterday.  Today… we went right to it.  We were really excited about finding the box.

Now…I’m not sure if you are supposed to post such things (I’m new to this) so, just in case, I’ll say… spoiler alert.  This stamp was amazing and Anna Grace was thrilled. But if you don’t want to know…. just skip this next part.

My daughter has a thing about water towers.  She points them out and finds them long before Dana and I ever see what she’s talking about.  In addition, she has starting saying that water towers have certain “styles”.  The one that is in the lead of this post is Anna Grace’s favorite water tower and she calls it a “castle” water tower.   Now…look at the stamp….

A certain someone was thrilled when she saw that there was a water tower on the stamp.

Next up… we went back to Lake Apopka to find the letterbox that we gave up on yesterday.  We did eventually find the stamp but no box.  We think that “muggles” must have found the box as the stamp was lying loose on the ground and there was no box and no logbook to be found.  I sent a note to the”planter” of the box to let them know.

We then took Dana to the letterbox we found yesterday and from there we headed up to Chapin Station.  At Chapin Station there is a hike that features three letterboxes.  We found 2 of them and had a lot of fun on the little hike through the palmettos. (Ignore the Florida hair!)

Stamping our logbook

Something exciting happened while we were here…we found our first hitchhiker.  I checked the rules on the HH’s logbook to make sure he didn’t have to be replanted within a time limit and realized that we was free to go with us.  There’s a letterbox that I want to find up near where we placed an offer on the….ahem…pink…. house and I think I’ll put him there if there’s “room in the inn”.

From here we moved on and found Little Leaper.

Checking the logbook

We then worked and worked to find Slow & Steady.  We searched in plain site, we looked in every nook and cranny.  Couldn’t find it.  We think it may be missing.  Not sure since we’re new to this.

We had a great time, we were a little more prepared than yesterday (but not much).  We did decide that Anna Grace’s little spiral notebook won’t do the trick though.  The ink bleeds too much.  And, we also decided that we really do need to get a compass.  We need to return this one to Doc Brown and we did find it really useful.

I think I’m hooked and Dana is darn near hooked.   We loved being outdoors and exploring…just like when we were in Washington.  We don’t have waterfalls and such to hunt for here so letterboxing gives us a “hunt” and we’re having a lot of fun.

  1. We’ve been wanting to try letterboxing. I have all the stuff, just waiting to make a stamp. A friend is helping me today so maybe we’ll be starting soon. I love seeing all the neat stamps!

  2. Tiffany sent your site to me. We have really enjoyed LB and we loved finding the ones in Winter Garden. We are 3 Ps in a Pod. You might have seen our stamp. I have some postings on LB on my blog. Just scroll down the side and find the label Letterboxing. There are a few times that we don’t find the stamp too. It is very frustrating.

And, I can relate to the Florida hair. =)
