I finally got the values statement finished and it is posted on the shop’s sidebar. Here’s the statement:
Sonny & Shear is founded and operated based on a set of values, beliefs. The principles and practices that guide our daily business decisions are based on these values.
Our Values:
- We believe in the importance of building a business that allows us to put family first and that success is measured by the character we display and the character we instill in our children. This is our foundation and all business decisions are built off of this one truth.
- We believe in being an integral and responsible part of a community: being neighborly, trusting others, contributing of ourselves and our resources.
- We believe in the importance of promoting independent fiber artists and businesses not only through carrying their products but also by highlighting their successes and accomplishments.
- We believe in personal responsibility. Whether in finance, business growth/practices or customer service, we are responsible and we take that responsibility very seriously.
Our Principles and Practices:
- We seek to expand our business at a steady and responsible rate while exercising fiscal responsibility and without compromising our values, commitments or personal ethics.
- We strive to have an open system of communication with our customers and potential customers in the fiber arts community. We actively participate within this community as individuals and as a business. We trust our customers, find joy in communicating with them daily and consider ourselves their neighbor.
- We will maintain an inventory that consists of yarns and fibers from independent artists, small business owners and family farms. No more than 10% of our inventory will be filled with corporate yarns and fibers.
- We will promote the artists we work with both on our website and with our customers. We will promote their individual businesses, not simply the products that we carry. We will not ask an artist or entity to sign an exclusivity agreement or verbally encourage exclusivity as we feel this will harm their individual businesses and it has a negative impact on the market place.
- We strive daily to exceed our customers’ expectations when it comes to the products they purchased, pricing, shipping costs and the services they received.
- Our efforts and energies will be spent building relationships, trust and a sense of community with our customers. We will not spend it building hype. We think the customer relationship is much more important.
Very cool. And knowing you both as a business woman and a friend, I think you are successfully following the value statement!
I like this. Well done.
Well said! So far I think you’re doing a great job of living up to your values.
