Ghosted

There’s a happy little tradition here in Oakland called Ghosting.  This may happen in other parts but I never heard of it or participated in such a thing until I moved here.  I’m not that much of a Halloween person but once I was ghosted that first year I was hooked.  Each Halloween I just wait.  And wait.  Waiting….feeling like Linus lookin’ for the Great Pumpkin….waiting.  This year…nothin’.  No ghosting.  bleh

Ghosting:
A pre-Halloween tradition of

  1. Sneaking onto your neighbor’s front porch after dark
  2. Taping a cutout of a white ghost onto their front door
  3. Leaving a small bag or basket of Halloween candy on the door mat
  4. Leaving a note instructing the recipient to ghost three more people or such and such will happen (bad luck, tooth decay, etc)
  5. Run like the dickens!

The recipient leaves the ghost taped to their door until after Halloween so other will know they were already ghosted.

I was ghosted the first time when I was pregnant with Anna Grace.  I thought I heard something outside but then ignored it.  Later, Dana went to walk out front and found a little ghost on my door and a happy basket full of candy.  Woo Hoo.

Anyhoo… I was visiting with my friend Michelle the other day and whined loudly casually mentioned that nobody ghosted me this year.  Well, Saturday night there’s this HUGE ruckus on the front porch, I look out front and totally bust Michelle and family (Haley, Spencer and Tim….see here. ) ghosting me but they called Gobbling (as in a Turkey) since it was post Halloween and pre Thanksgiving.  So, I have a little picture of a Turkey taped to my front door and a happy little bag of candy.

I took a picture of my Turkey but it didn’t turn out.  The camera is acting funky but I think that’s because I accidently changed a setting or something.  Dana is going to have to fix it when he gets home.

Note: Residents of Enumclaw, WA…. pay close attention to the ghosting instructions above.  I want my ghosting… heck, just give me candy and we’ll call that a step in the right direction.

We have an offer on the house.  We’re still negotiating but we’ve agreed on the price.  It’s just the contingency stuff, time periods, etc that were figuring out.   I feel more confident about this person than I did with the last one but we’ll see.  She really loved the house, she even wrote on the memo line of her escrow check "Our Dream House".  I’m hopeful.  I tried not to get my hopes up. Too late.

Anna Grace is really blossoming with her speech these past few days.   We’ve recently learned open and up and I am getting her to call Momma instead of whining.  That last one is still in the working stages.  We’ve got a ways to go.  AG has also learned to point to her eyes and her belly.  All this in just a few days time.  Tomorrow she has an O.T. consult.  I’ll be interested to see if they really think she needs services or if they think her sensory seeking stuff will resolve on its own.  I’m ok either way on that one.

Well… off to the tub.
