My Beautiful Girl

Dear Anna Grace

I can’t believe you are seven.  I am continually amazed at how fast you’re growing, how fast time flies and how much I love who you are becoming while still missing that little girl who used to push a disassembled shopping cart all through the house, the neighborhood, the world.

There are so many things you need to know about what happened when you were little and what everyone thought your future would be.  But that’s for another day.  Today I am so thankful for what your reality is, what you have overcome and all of the bright horizons that await you.  You are the overcomer of overcomers.  Never forget that.

I wish you a happy birthday… to every part of you… my precious girl.

To the girl who talks my ear off and makes me beg for a moment of silence even though doctor after doctor and therapist after therapist said she would never speak… I wish you a happy birthday.

To the girl who repeats every household secret, asks every adult on the planet every inappropriate question she can think of even though doctor after doctor and therapist after therapist said that no one outside of our family would ever understand the things she says… I wish you a happy birthday.

To the girl who spends hours and hours drawing pictures and writing letters even though doctor after doctor and therapist after therapist said her hands would never have the strength to write or color or hold a pencil…. I wish you a happy birthday.

To the girl who loves to read books to her dolls and announce what every street sign says and reads every bilboard (even the ones I wish she didn’t) although doctor after doctor and therapist after therapist cautioned us that she may never learn to read… I wish you a happy birthday.

To the girl who taught me that God is so very real and he heals through not just the unexplained but through doctors and therapists and medicine and diet and life, etc…. I wish you a happy birthday.

You transformed my life.  Walking that painful journey with you transformed my faith.

I love you with all my heart and I will always be there for you.  Never forget that.

Happy 7th birthday!!

Love,

Mom

  1. Happy Birthday, Anna Grace! And thanks alot, Kris, for making me cry all over my laptop! 😉
I love how the world says one thing, But God (don’t you love the “but, God’s?) says, “Watch ME”.
“For with God nothing will be impossible.”~Luke 1:37

    Love and hugs,

  2. Ok, I’m eating my edamane and crying. Thank you for sharing your love and encouragement. Our God is the God of impossible miracles in action. Awesome…Happy birthday you beautiful little girl.

May God continue to walk with you, talk to you and hold you in his incredible embrace all of your days.

    Hugs across the wires~

  3. Good for you AG for talking your mom’s ear off and embarassing the family with inappropriate questions and good for you for being a normal beautiful little girl. And good for you for proving all those drs and therapists wrong and proving God right.

  4. And God can be thanked for putting the doctors and therapists into your family’s life who were willing to see beyond the “can’ts” and the “never wills”, and instead drew their abilities from Him, to say “can” and “will”.

And God can be thanked for giving AG parents who wouldn’t believe the “cant’s” and the “never wills”, but who instead said “yes we can and we will”, knowing that God would guide their steps and give them strength.

Happy happy birthday, Anna Grace! The big wide world is out there — go get ’em!!
